Looking for help from the network gurus here...
Here's what I know:
- Geekhack is inaccessible via ping and browser (unless I use a proxy) on any computer on my network
- I can access it fine on any other network
As far as I know, no one has messed with my router. Although it seems like it's definitely getting blocked at the network firewall level. Could Verizon (my isp) have blocked it?
-
are you able to hit the IP, or is it a DNS issue? Have you attempted using an alternate DNS provider? Could you do an nslookup?
it's highly unlikely that verizon is at fault, but they're certainly not without question. have you tried plugging a computer directly into your modem and connecting?
-
It sounds like a DNS issue to me. As harrison suggested, if you're using Verizon's default config, try changing the DNS servers in your router config to something like OpenDNS...
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
...or Google DNS:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
...Then reboot your router.
You might also want to do an ipconfig /flushdns or do a "repair" on your network interfaces on your computers to force them to clear the DNS cache.

Thanks guys...will try all suggestions when I get home tonight!

I confirmed its not a dns issue and some others are having the same issue. I pmed iMav so we'll see what he says.

Last time I clicked on a similar type of Link within my eMail, it generated a message to ALL my contacts in regard to my "Now working for Google" and look "How much cash I am currently earning". My contacts have my sympathy.
I have no issues in regard to the OP, everything is fine.
Have you, those with issues, been peaking at naughty sites ? :peep: be truthful.

The thing about links in email is it's extremely easy to mask the *real* location you're going to with a lie. Any link you don't trust you should mouse-hover and make sure it's not lying to you. Besides, that particular URL is rather well known in tech crowds and is perfectly safe.

Geekhack is now blocked on my home network.
What the hell????
-
Found out from Ripster's experiences that it was Geekhack that was blocking me. Did a virus scan on my computer. Turned off my DSL modem for a while to get a new IP. Fixed.
For a couple of days, I thought Geekhack was down.
-
Actually I haven't really been hanging out at deskthorthemovie.net. On the contrary I pmed sixty and asked him to delete my account since webwit was netstalking me.
He hasn't replied...probably afraid to lose more of their user base.
-
Webwit stalking? Do tell!
-
He stalked my LinkedIn profile and I never told him my name or where I live.
I don't trust ANY of the mods at that site.
-
Sooo...is someone saying that people from GH that went to Deskthor.net are getting blocked from GH because of a virus or something was planted by someone at Deskthor?
-
To my knowledge no one said that. But personally, I wouldn't put anything past webwit. He f**ked with GeekHack before (just with images, but still).
-
I just had rebuilt my office and all systems about 10 days ago, and suddenly the last 3 days GH does not work on my network, I'm disappointed. All of you are so flipping weird I can't seem to stay away for long. Like a train wreck...
Just trying to find out why GH is blocked for me :(

This is what happens when you post on a Keyboard Forum in the ALPS.

My point exactly. Weirdos.
I will never be that weird. :)
(I can't believe I'm posting from my phone...that's getting pretty weird)
Time to dig and see what the problem might be :(
-
Weird...now it's working fine for me and a few others.
-
I just checked...it's working......it wasn't working an hour ago....
-
Hi, sometimes i have the same problems connecting this site. traceroute fails on the last hop. dig works fine.
Same time from new VM instance with VPN and the site is still reachable. This could happen when sticky sessions are used and a node my ip is assigned to is running out of filehandles, or so.
Maybe the hoster has a problem with a loadbalancer or fw ? Or the vaispy.php feature needs too many filehandles ?
-
I had the same problem as you guys. I reset my DSL modem and router to force an IP change and that cleared up the problem. Wonder if all the people that had the problem are using AT&T?
-
No, I have a different ISP.
