Title: What few months of brown will do to you?
Post by: BucklingSpring on Mon, 16 May 2011, 09:15:29
After couples of months using XArmor's MX Brown, I'm ready to move on.

Buckling springs are my benchmark. What a shocking transition.

Typing on a XArmor brown is like walking in a canoe. It's soft, quiet and you need to be careful no to tip the boat over (especially with the large keys). Back at Buckling springs is like walking on a hardwood floor with boots. It's hard, loud and rock solid. The precision is very satisfying.

The only times I'm going to miss the MX Browns is while I'm on the phone. I can be typing and nobody noticed.

Meanwhile – The XArmor is compact, backlit, feature rich and has very weak stabilizers.

The whole Brown experience is up to personal tastes. Too light for those who prefers heavy switches.

Your post has me thinking that I may not bother trying the Brown's after all. I'm not a typist anyway and my "industrial" hands don't care about the DECK blacks or IBM buckling springs. Thanks for the confirmation. I might just as well get a DECK 82 for the tenkeyless I need.

MX Black and Buckling Springs are amongst the stiffest switches around.

On a side note, The MX Blue are relatively light too. I don't know if it's because of the audible feedback but I got used to them and liked them better than the Brown.

I got to admit... At first the Brown were "woaw". Velvet got its appeal too. It just didn't last.

I thought the Blues were nice too, but I don't use them much.

Wow, I must be some sort of superman to have weathered that danger zone.  I've moved from decades of white clicky complicated ALPS to my current alternation between Cherry browns and Topre Realforce 45g.  Should I be expecting some sort of Vietnam Vet-style PTSD flashbacks soon?

Wow. Off like to try browns. own buckling springs and monterey. Monterey are very pleasant to type on but any lighter I think would be no effort to me and idk if old like that. I'd think torpes and browns would have too much give for me. I'd like to test drive them though

To me the 55g feels stiffer than touch typing on mx blacks.
However bottoming out the 45g feels like touch typing on mx blacks.

I'd highly suggest it.I'd say they almost our do feel better than bucklingsprings of c though its personal preference. Is like to try clicky alps cherry blacks and blues. I like my keyboards big and loud.. I don't get small form factor except maybe for a htpc our a really small desk

I wouldn't really compare the two. I love buckling springs but I find blacks way too stiff.

I'm using browns right now and of the cherry switches that I have tried they are my favorite but I would love a switch that feels something like buckling springs but without the noise.

buckling spring (ibm m)- too stiff, traded for cherry blacks (cherry g80-3000) - still too stiff, got some browns (leopold fc200rt) and my hands are happy. i miss the CLICK. trying blues next as soon as i get my poker. my keyboards keep shrinking.
also, +1 for zooey deschanel.

Don't bother trying to relate to the original post. I encourage threadcrapping in my own threads as long as it is amusing ;-)

Zooey must have a real boy friend (or girl friend, who knows) who likes her very much and can do whatever he/she wants to her… So add at least one to your count :-)

See... It's all about personal taste. Your hands could probably manage Red as well.

Back to the subject at hand, "switching" from high contrasts switches - velvet quiet brown vs heavy noisy buckling springs was an interesting experience. It really helped me to better define what I like.

Threadcrapping is not the same as going OT.

Please share your wisdom or RTFM me. I don't know what OT is. (Off Topic maybe?)
