Title: Beep / getting stuck

I have a Laser keyboard with SMK switches (quite nice actually).

I've used it for some time at home but ran into some issues. Whenever I'm typing really fast or playing COD4 I occasionally get a "system beep". The beep itself isn't too bad but it also means that a key gets "stuck" and keeps getting triggered for a few seconds, highly annoying!

The strange this is that when I brought it to work it NEVER had any of these symptoms.

Now that I have a model M at work I want to bring the Laser back home but would love to know if this problem can be fixed. The fact that it doesn't happen on my work machine gives me hope it can.

Here's the setup :

Home : Din -> PS/2 adapter (computer has PS/2 input)
Work : Din -> PS/2 adapter, PS/2 -> USB convertor

Any help is appreciated ofcourse !:)

It works with current PS/2 -> USB convertor.. so it's not a Blue Cube thing :)

The weird thing is working weirdly with just the DIN->PS/2 adapter (which would seem less of a problem)

Silly question here, but have you tried the same setup at home that you have at work? The DIN -> PS/2 -> USB route?

The only time I've heard the PC system speaker go off while using a keyboard is when pressing more keys then a board can handle(rollover problems). In those cases though, the key that triggers the problem does not register at all, so it doesn't really sound like what you've got going on. :noidea:

@Mr. Perfect.. No have not tried that, it's worth a shot :) (It is a weird problem indeed)

@Ripster it's the switch in the bottom image. I can understand the concept of NKRO, but is that something a PS/2 to USB convertor would/could solve?

Just i stated just now, not all adapter can change PS/2 to USB perfectly. That's why GH always become Blue Cube fanboi.

I think I might have not explained it properly.. but the keyboard was only giving the problems WITHOUT the PS/2 to USB convertor (computer with native PS/2 port)

You don't have the error signalling functionality over USB. (My Belkin adapter will usually clear all keystrokes then.) Usually when the system beeps at you with a PS/2 connection, it means you've hit some combination of >=3 keys that cannot be accepted on this particular board. Try using Aquakeytest or whatever to reproduce it.

Ripster,

12 "euro-dimes" still weren't enough.. so I tested it by adding other change to it. Finally clicked at 12 x 10c, 3 x 20c and 1x 5c. Went to the mailroom at work and used their scale to see how much that ended up to be.

Scale said it was 70 grams

It might be that your PS/2 ~ USB connector is not working properly, I believe too is a KRO problem. What about the OS on both computers?

Maybe because of the granularity? With nickels you can only measure to the nearest 5grams. :shocked:

Could be a thing... Windows XP at home  and Windows 7 at work
