Upside down Filco switches whaaaaaaat, I'm pretty sure this isn't normal.

It is.

That's working, but you should pull it out and put it the right way.

It's hard to tell if someone is joking on the internet.

did you just bought your keyboard?

lol +1

Yeep last week, I actually kind of regret it; I like the browns over the blues.
-
You can always buy another brown. Most of us do so, and regret more.

I actually wanted reds, but damn bastards took em all. A week later, everyone's selling them because they fell for the hype. Silly children.

We are all children anyway. Just replace what we sucks from candies to keyboards.
-
is it tenkeyless or 104 key?
-
I have... all of them that you talked about.. lol
but I am not satisfied with them 100 percent.
It's just that you get greedy and greedier as you get something. It's human nature!! WANT MORE!!! XD
-
Great news, maybe filco is thinking to built a good keyboard ?
I'm sure ripster will be proud to see filco start cloning xarmor....
-

return it then, and show them the problem.
Really bad luck that this happend to you man, better luck next time...
PS: I've got the 8th last one filco majestouch2 red full layout :x

did expect to see boob in this topic.
I remember reading somewhere about the upside down keys, but don't know what was exactly discussed in that topic, oh well.
-
I believe that having the switch be upside down is for LEDs as was mentioned earlier. I seem to remember hearing somewhere that most backlit boards have them upside down because it puts the LED closer to where the legend on the keycap is.

But it's a Filco.. No backlighting. And it's kind of strange that all the keys are in the proper orientation except these two. I'll try and return it :/
-
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it unless it is causing a problem. Though I can understand if OCD starts to kick in and bug you about it. It seems like a number of members here are kind of OCD about their desk space...

What a bunch of trolls.
All Gen2 Filcos are that way.
You never mentioned this interesting fact when people asked about the differences between gen1 and gen2

To be honest, I don't think it was supposed to be that way, contrary to what people think, because having upside down switches only on the left window and alt key is so arbitrary; I don't see Diatec's reasoning for doing this, so I'm assuming it was a mistake.
-
It's bad enough nobody reads the Wikis I write carefully.
Frankly I don't care much about filcos, whit the exception of filco mini, so I read the related infos just when I encounter it.
BTW wiki are mostly well written but is a mess.
Until some better engine will be used we need a wiki of wiki, a single stick thread wit more interesting threads linked on it.

Not sure why your freaking out about it. Pretty much all the backlight cherry mx switches are placed that way(Deck legend upside down (http://i49.tinypic.com/20j5p50.jpg))
I posted a thread on this a while back and also replied to another which my response was deleted due to the new theme changes and update.
It's actually an interesting thing because if you do a comparison between a standard placement and the upside down. The upside down switch tends to produce a better tactile response and feel. In simplest terms the upside down switches have their tactile point or linear slide placed towards the fingertips rather than towards the fingernails. So you press the switch towards the nerve endings rather than against them with the nails.
And as I said you also get a better feel of the switch tactility and also in the linear switches you feel a sort of wall giving support as you press down. Some people might say that orientation shouldn't matter but to me it does.

I wasn't really freaking out, just filled with curiosity why every single switch except those two were in that orientation. I am aware that several companies mount it like this for backlighting, but it's just so weird that all but two switches are like that.
-
One reason to have the switches in odd orientation might be to facilitate optional switch placement on the same pcb. It makes it possible to have two different switch positions in close proximity without soldering pads overlapping. I have no idea if this is the case. The "generation 1" filcos are done that way, not on the part left of spacebar though.
-
I would be scared if it was only on one keyboard in the production, but if it is on all the majestouch 2 series/generation then they did it for a reason and trusting the company enough to live with it. Besides, its represents no problem at the time of typing so... chill!

You can mount a switch upside down only if the PCB is purposely designed to accept it. Is not possible to mount a switch with a different orientation by mistake.

Right dear Solutor, so unsoldering the switch and turning it upside up, and downside down, would make it worst, since altho~ right now it's upside down, it is working properly.
And I agree that this is something ripster coulda have mentioned when so many threads have been open asking the diferences...
knowledge is power, but we are here to share power then.
-
Not me. If I shared power outside the Wikis I'd no longer be the #1 Keyboard expert on the Planet.
You are more like the blendtec guy. Doing fun ****, breaking stuff - for science.
-
They cost a lot, so they must be good. Right? RIGHT?

then you are ruined, people will start gathering power with the search engine and no longer need you lol perhaps one day there will be many ripsters around with the same knowledge...
you think you are special Fett? theres a clone army on their way here!
-

Some things NEVER change.
-
Wait, didn't I post the answer to this earlier today?.. How ignorant of the surrounding world is it possible to get? Did anyone ever look at the pin-out of a mx-switch? I'm not going to help on that now, but I might post a pic tomorrow if someone still doesn't get it, although I doubt it will do any good =P Now I need to sleep.
There, I hope that was wise-ass enough =D
-
Sorry about the blur but I couldn't get it any flatter against the scanner...

Actually it looks like that ctrl key would have two possible orientations in the same location.

WOW the Italian is almost entirely correct here, a step up from the usual garbled spammer Engrish. It's a shame it's just a random excerpt from some half-scientific article.

Not really, google translate is just getting (slightly) better.

Ok. Now is clear.
They use some switch upside down to use the same PCB for different phisical layout, like ducky.
-
Looks like they wanted one PCB for JIS/ANSI/ISO stuffing options.
I told you guys Japanese Engineering>German Engineering>Taiwanese Engineering>Chinese Engineering.
Indeed the super genius from japanese filco, managed to clone the chinese ducky's PCB.

I just gave a close look to a picture I've found on the internet, to the keyboard I'm getting (already bought, waiting for it to get delivered to me), the Filco Majestouch 2 104 layout with Red Switches, and if you pay close attention to the picture, you can actually see that in this case, the switches from the left are ok (ctrl+alt+win+etc) but unlike the case of the blue ones from the OP, this model with red switches have the right keys upside down: menu+ctrl+alt?
The rest of the keys are correctly placed.
Weird huh?
PS: I didn't attach the picture, not edit with a circle showing the switches upside down, cause I'm on the office, 'working' ^_^
-
What's not OK with them being upside down? You have something against Australians or Brazillians? Or South Africans? It's not their fault they are upside down.
Are you referring to me, about my last post?
-
I'm now uploading the image with notes belonging to the Filco Majestouch 2, with red switches (I believe this layout is the full japanese layout), since I just got out of the office, so just people can see clearly of what I mean.
BTW: I don't think switches upside down are wrong, since all backlight keyboards have them(or 99%)
