Keyless LifeBook concept
-
I like the new switchblade Keyboard from razer better, the idea is great. I wounder if those will be scissor switches or what will go on there...
-
Probably nice for tablet fans, personally I wouldn't get one. Concept is nice, the problem is just that there aren't any keys, which kind of screws up my typing.
If you're the kind of guy who has 3 iPads(one for home, one for travel and one for work), then this might be for you.
However, I don't think the link does the concept justice; it's better explained here (http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/8/view/14607/keyless-lifebook-by-laura-lahti-fujitsu-design-award-2011-shortlisted-entry.html).
Edit:
Actually both links give you about the same now that I look at it, the other just has more pretty pictures.

Drag your finger from letter to letter? No clicking? That sounds absolutely terrible.

This touchscreen keyboard will be huge, just like this device that you now see absolutely everywhere:

Because if there's one thing people love it is pushing their fingers against unyielding surfaces when typing.
-
you know... who knows tactile keyboards/physical keyboards might die out within a few decades, if these touchscreen on-screen smartphones are more prevalent, ppl might really get used to the idea of a keyless keyboard.
-
Idunno man, I could never actually deal with a keyboard that has no tactile feedback. I can barely stand an iPhone/iPad as it is.
-

Oh wait, he's almost dead.
He's been almost dead all decade. I'll believe he's dead when he's cold and buried with the excess Newton inventory.

Agreed. Based on my observations of kids growing up today, I find it unlikely that the mouse/keyboard we use today will remain prevalent, and will instead be relegated to a specialized tool that only people doing certain work will use, while most people will use touch interfaces of some sort.

You can pry my Cherry MX's out of my cold, dead fingers.

^ Same here. For any serious typing, proper keyboards with tactile feedback will always be a must. Of course, serious typing itself might not be a must if and when voice recognition achieves mass penetration... which I hope will never happen.
-
I can't think properly when I'm talking... if that makes sense haha. I've always preferred texting to phone calls, and prefer writing "by hand" rather than "by voice".
