This 23" acer just ain't cuttin' it any more.

I'm thinkin' Dell 27" or 30". Looking for opinions on whether to get 1080p or higher...
of course all opinions are welcome.

Depends on if your video card can push resolutions higher than 1080p.  I like the Dell Ultrasharps but all the buzz right now goes to the HP ZR30w (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/382087-382087-64283-72270-3884471-4194577.html).

But the HP does not have near as many I/O ports as the Dell U3011 (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=224-9949).

Both of these are 30" IPS panels which is, indeed, baller a$$.

Get 2 dell 2209wa's. You can get two for around 500 on ebay. I bought my second one from printersplusmore.

I'm done with dual monitors. I realize now my mind can only ever look at one screen at the time, meaning I might as well alt+tab rather than pay 250 for a second monitor. This is definitely one of those GO BIG OR GO HOME situations.
After looking at a few reviews Ill probably get a nice 27", gotta choose between Dell/HP/Apple/???.

Get the U2711 before they are phased out for the newer (bleargh) 16:9 IPS monitors.

Or if you're hardcore enough, you could try this - remove the Anti-Glare (AG) coating as it makes pictures definitely MUCH clearer and brighter and contras levels will go through the roof yo!

ag removal is risky. i gave it a go on my old samsung 205bw. it was not a success. the glue was very very strong in the center and resulted in the polarizer layer being torn.
another suggestion is LG ips. they use the same panels as the dells (lg makes them) and are cheaper. the trade off is that they are only 1080 even at the larger sizes. there are also some asus ips and mva models available too.
the current apple models are display port, so your gpu must have a display port. there are not controls available for anything as its all done in software. which there is none for windows. you might as well take the cinema display off your list if you're not on a mac as nice as it is.

I think all the buzz for the HP ZR30w comes from Maximum PC and PC Gamer mags and is then channeled through OCN.  I want the U3011.  I actually had one in my shopping cart at dell.com but things went... awry.

you do realize that "your mind" wount be able to look at the entire screen at a time, without you sitting quite far away?

yeah, i cant describe it, but its like my mind forgets the other monitor is there and just tunes it out. Also with 2 monitors it looks off center and kinda crappy imo. Where did that coupon code come from? Is there one or the 27"? also are there any high quality glossy displays? DAYUM! that's one expensive monitor. I was thinking in the <$1000 range. I hope no one thinks of me as any less hardcore since I won't spend $2500 on a display.

I agree.... I meen, I could only imagine a screen without ips... Well it's probably no better than a dirty ol' rubber dome keyboard!

Yo Rip, is there any input lag on your u3011? I will buy the u2711 unless you tell me there's lag. I'm a gamer and don't want any more lag than I have now :p the only thing i like about my acer is it's great(low) for lag, but now that I think of it, I notice all mac's i've used have input lag and those are the only IPS monitors I've used, and this has me worried. Is it still worth it given input lag factor?

The u3011 does have a bit more lag then the zr30w (which I own) but its such a small amount sometimes I think the people who say they notice it are full of ****.  Both monitors are a great buy and will be great for gaming, you have to weigh the options I guess?  Do you want a scaler(u3011) which is good if your going to play your ps3 on your monitor which im not a fan of and why I have a 40" lcd tv or do you want less input lag(not really noticable), less inputs and a worse return/pixel policy(zr30w) although they did replace 2 monitors for me due to stuck green pixels right near the center of the screen and they didnt have to .

 If I had it do over again and the dell was on sale I would get the dell, thats not to say I dont ****ing love my zr30w though as its amazing but the dell is pretty equally amazing + a great return policy if you dont mind talking to Indians who claim to be named Adam if you have a problem.

I would never get this, lol as a gamer in every respect, i'd consider this a downgrade.

yeah, i think ill end up with the 27" dell, even if there was lag, it would be made up with picture quality.
What monitors(speakers) are those, im looking for an inexpensive set for my DAW setup.
