Title: A pile of Avant Stellars
Post by: sprintf32768 on Fri, 10 June 2011, 21:08:11
Hi everyone,

Ever since I got a RealForce I haven't been to the forums very much.  But I hope you are all well!

I have, piled up in the back of my station wagon, six (6) beige Avant Stellars.  This is the monster "Northgate clone" with F-keys along the top AS WELL as along the left side.  They are quite fabulous and heavy, if you are into Northgates.  Of course, true believer Northgate fans would not consider these a worthy alternative.  But for me, an Avant was always a fine substitute.

Each one of these keyboards has a problem, or more than one problem.  You know, the typical Avant stuff.  Flaky keyswitch here and there, flaky firmware acting up every now and then.  They haven't been plugged into a system for many years.  Just been in a pile next to my desk.

This is the last pile of Avants (My next pile is going to be a pile of flaky FILCOs (!))

These Avants are all PS/2 of course.

Anyway, let me know if you have any interest, and I can take some pictures.  These keyboards can be maintained quite easily, even by a hack solderer like myself, especially if you happen to have a bunch of spare alps switches around.  Otherwise, maybe you want to solder in the perfectly good scroll lock for the flaky 'A' switch?  This can get you pretty far.  Hint: some of these keyboards might not have a functional scroll-lock key!

Aw, ripster, I hope you are pulling my leg with that fancy talk!  :)

I am not an alps guy.  I've got no idea what sort of alps funny-business is going on with these.

Oh, and on further investigation, I have FIVE (5) Stellars and One (!) Prime.

Still plenty of keyboards, really.

I have received a generous offer for these keyboards, which I have accepted

Good to see you again, ripster.
