I'm looking into getting a decent keyboard and I don't want to spend over $40.
I heard that keytronic is a good a company for value so any recommendations would be nice.
Thanks.

You want a mechanical keyboard for $40 USD ? . Good luck

Model M off eBay?

This one is for $40 (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?18498-For-Sale-40-HHKB-happy-hacking-keyboard-lite-2-ps-2)
or the IBM Model M in eBay (http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=IBM+model+M&_sacat=0&_odkw=keyboard+m&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313)

I don't expect a mechanical keyboard in this price range, just a good rubber dome.

IBM's are to loud since I'll be up at night and I don't want to wake anyone up.
-
Get a AT101W, those things are cheap, and not as loud as Model Ms
-
AT101W? A keyboard that's almost impossible not to bottom out, makes quite a racket in the process and isn't very enjoyable to type on at all? Hell no.
But speaking of Dell, a RT7D5JTW Quietkey (or another old NMB rubber dome for that matter) may be worth a shot. For a new board, a Keytronic E36xx wouldn't be that bad though.
-
Yeah I've heard that the Keytronics are some of the best dome boards, and Newegg.com has a bunch to choose from (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100008650%2050001477&IsNodeId=1&name=KeyTronic)!

There's some $10 (with code) "gaming ...something" on newegg that's supposed to be okay.
I would say that the dell at101 is a matter of preference, not automatically out of the running. Some people don't like alps.
I'd say to get something off of ebay. I'd go for one of the 6xxx righttouch nmb's. They seem to generally sit around $20-30.
-
If I had $40 to spend I'd try for a POS keyboard off ebay or try and score a Compaq/APC 11900 with browns.

This is also an option:
http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?17570-G80-8113LRCUS-0-on-eBay-for-20usd
full NKRO and everything. The extra keys and card reader could come in handy too.

As False Dmitry II posted, this board. (http://cgi.ebay.ca/Cherry-POS-Keyboard-w-Credit-Card-Swiper-MX-8100-mx8100-/320531739158?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa12e3216&clk_rvr_id=239605633357) Cherry MX Clears (not clicky) and pretty cheap, with full NKRO. However, it's PS/2, the layout is nonstandard, and the boards supposedly smell bad.
-
Well the paint smells, but not for long.
Also keep in mind to use the american site when you try to buy it if that's where you are to get the correct shipping.
If ps/2 is a problem just buy the $10 blue cube. You can get that and it for about $30, so I'd say it's definitely the thing to go for.
