Hi,
the topic says it all.
I'm interested which of them I should get.
I want to know, which of them is quieter and which is more resistant against key caps wear.
And maybe you know if there are weight differences.
The key caps are designated for my new Filco 87 mx red.
-
That's easy. Get the imsto PBTs.
-
An what about the lettering?
Is it laserd?
I don't want the engraved.
-
The abs doubleshots are really more durable overall. Dunno what rigs is talking about.
-
The lettering is either engraved or lasered depending on what you pick. The 'black' on white is a shade of grey. The 'white' on black is a shade of gold/tan. I have a set of white on black on my Filco 87 w/ browns that I got from tankguys (http://www.tankguys.com/site-merchandise/overclock-net-pbt-cherry-white-black.html). The last batch had no OCN branding, I don't know about this batch. I haven't typed on double shots, what convinced me to go with these was my experience with the Choc Mini. I really liked the feel of the keycaps and these are very similar.

ABS shines a lot easier. It can get quite disgusting....
-
Shinyness is disgusting? Since when?
I like shiny things.
-
Any other recommendations?
PBT or double shot?
I can't decide yet.
-
The lettering on the double shot keys will never fade, but the plastic itself will get shiny quickly.
The PBT should keep its texture longer, shine less quickly. But the lettering… I don't know*? Since it's engraved, I guess you'll have to sandpaper it.
But I wouldn't buy the PBT keys for the lettering, I would buy them for their nice texture and thickness.
-
pbt for the texture on the keys
sp doubleshots for the design
cherry doubleshots ftw!
-
Does the thinness even matter though? PBT is more prone to cracking which I would be more concerned about.
I would think thin ABS would probably hold up fine.
-
just get the ones that look the best to you, to me that's the biggest difference. difference in material and sound between the two are really subtle.

I just don't care most of the time. i would fart if I want to hear the opinion of, you know..
And thickness does matter, bro. just from the sound of the caps being typed, at least for me, should be able to tell you that. I prefer thicker caps on the whole. But on the other hand, I can understand the attraction of DS like Ripster does. Especially the original Cherry ones. Which so happen to come thicker than normal DS as well.

I'm leaning towards the PBT from imsto.
But I would take the lasered ones, not the engraved. I like the gray on white.
On white key caps you only do lasering and it looks burned. But on black keys you laser and do infill afterwards? Do I remember this correctly from one of the wikis?

if shine is what bothers you, then think that pbt will probably will buy you more time, but if you are going to use the keyboard a lot, then it will get shinny in the end too, so I wouldn't measure by that. Focus on the lettering, and sound/feel. Doubleshots is the best, so I think if you want perfect lettering always, get the ABS doubleshot.
Personally I dislike lettering, so I would get blank PBTs ^^
