Hi,
I'll order my second mechanical keyboard soon and I'm wondering how the build quality of the Filco is compared to a Topre. Could a Filco with double shot replacements ever match a realforce 45g?

Are you planning to type on it, or admire it? That should be your first priority.
The key feel and sound between the two will be very different, even with doubleshots on the Filco. You haven't even said which Cherry switches you were thinking of on the Filco....

filco would be browns. and I'm definitely planning to typing on it.

In terms of build quality, the realforce is hard to match. You would have to find something else that is produced in small quantities, where the QC is exceptionally high. After all, the Realforce is basically a boutique item, with all of the attention to the production that usually implies. To bring in the dreaded car anology, what do you think will be more well built, an S class mercedes or a Rolls Royce? Sure, you're definitely paying for that quality upgrade, and is it even worth it, I dunno, but it's definitely there.
In terms of key feel...well, that's entirely personal, though I definitely prefer the topre to anything cherry.
Out of curiosity, what do you have now? And do you want something similar, or are you looking for something new?

I have cherry blues on pcb mount atm (g80-3000, very cheap in germany) and I'm looking for somethng else. It's not the sound thats bothering me, but overall build quality, the SIZE and flimsy feel.
and i don't know about rollse royce being better, seeing how their aircraft engines sometimes fail!

Hey, I'm talking about cars here. And things fail. Anything mechanical is subject to failure, and anything related to planes is just prone to it due to the piss poor maintenance they are usually subjected to.
I think you would be happy with either the realforce or a filco, then. I'm not sure how much they are in Germany, but unless you already have the double shot keys (your g80, maybe?), the total cost of the realforce and the filco won't be all that much different (for a work tool, I mean). Also, I assume you are looking at both in the tenkeyless models?

Why not get both?

no! cant afford both. well, i cant really afford one, but i want it. realforce would be 250 incl. shipping and filco would be 150 incl. shipping.
i think ill get the realforce

If you're looking for quality, Topre is hard to beat.

Opinions are like a-holes, but if you can only have one, I'd go with the good feeling of oneness with cup rubber.

You've got to have at least one RF in your collection if you wanna stay at Geekhack. lol =D
Go for the 45g, I'm sure you won't regret it. It is a great keyboard. I have the 87UB 55g myself.
