Title: Filco TKL vs Ducky 1087
Post by: Lester on Sun, 19 June 2011, 08:33:18
Anyone here perhaps has used both? And maybe could tell me how the difference in quality/feel is when you type on it?
About to pull the trigger to buy a Ducky 1087 but I just want to be 110% sure so I wont regret it later ;)

(I'll be going for Brown switches)

Thx

Lester

Where did you find Ducky with browns? The one at PChome is out of stock on English lettering, unless you count that one that's labelled as being 1990 YUAN. That scared me when I saw it. Hope it's a typo, but wouldn't risk buying it.

My experience: When I have not enough the money, I buy old 2nd hand Compaq MX 11800. After that keyboard I buy Filco.

Go for Filco if you have the money. Sooner or later you will always buy a Filco anyway, so it is wise and cost effective to get it as your first keyboard.

Why would I buy a Filco if I have a ducky in future? :P

I have typed on Ducky 9008 and 1008. They are cheaper and have a little lower quality than a Filco.

Still a very good keyboard, though.

Lester, watch out. That one has Browns and blues. Blues on the arrows, home/end cluster, and PrintScreen, Scroll Lock, and Pause/Break keys.

I'm also thinking of getting that KB, and also getting the PBT keys with them. Combined shipping rocks. :)

I'll be adding a Wrist-rest from there, I wonder what size that wrist-rest is tho.
Which PBT keys are you getting? I think I'll get some white engraved ones from taobao or with a mass-order somewhere.

I'll just get them off of PChome, for fifty bucks. Group buy is 46 plus 25 shipping.

Seems like you have already made up your mind about which one to purchase. lol  I have both and I'd take Filco over Ducky any day. =D

I didn't make up my mind yet :P I'm just wondering how big is the difference in quality from Filco TKL & Ducky 1087.
I don't need a perfect board, as long as it's solid and does it's job and feels decent / sturdy it's fine enough for me :P

@ Arcanius, I see now http://global.pchome.com.tw/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=DCAH0X-A50371860&SR_NO=DCAH0X&ROWNO=6&tm=u
Seems really cheap, even cheaper then a 1087 + PBT Keys, alltho it's full-size :( :(
edit: English ones are sold out :(

Anyone has a clue if the wrist rest there are for full-size or TKL keyboards?

Was that directed at the OP? It seems he has made up his mind. Me.... not so much. Still contemplating Noppoo or Poker off of ebay, with the 37 PBT keys, from Qtan-somenumber.

Who was it that had a new and old Ducky? They need to post a review.
And yeah, I'd love to get that, but I want a tenkeyless. OR smaller. Might want to carry it around, who knows. Looking at the picture, I'd say it's TKL, but we have no way of knowing. :S

EDIT2: Also, look at this: http://global.pchome.com.tw/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=DCAH0X-A50302994&c=A05&tm=u
That's the 108 key, and I'm guessing that's a 9008? Google translate not working for me. -.-

Yup that's defo a 9008 (108 keys), has a big mix of switches tho, brown letters, black modifiers, blue numpad

Yeah, too bad there's no version with pure browns. Only mixed, blue or black. :/
Well... you going for the 1087?

Yea, very high chance I'm going for the 1087, I'm just figuring out a few things with keycaps/wrist rest/shipping costs etc to see how can I purchase this in the most efficient way.
The thing I'm wondering now is wether the wrist-rest from pchome is for a ducky 1087 or a ducky 9000, I wouldn't want to have an over-sized wrist rest :P
For Key-caps I'm trying to go for White-Engraved PBT ones, with blank colored PBT WASD keys and maybe some RGB color shift/control/alt ones ;)

And how about you? Which one do you think you'll go for?

I'm also thinking I'll go for the 1087, but no wristrest, and I'll just get the PBT caps, and give the leftovers to my friend with a Blackwidow. :D
However, my purchase is at least 3 weeks away, need to get some other business done before I buy. When you get yours, post a review? :)

I just ordered 2 1087s with blues...  The last two, I think.  160 shipped total- perfect for my kids' computers that I sometimes use.  On my main pc, I use a leopold or an IBM ssk.  The last 1087 I got was terrific- hope these are as well made.

Yea, apparantly the first batch was awful of the 1087, but they changed a lot of things in the production process and the newer 1087 are supposed to be decent (without major flaws the first ones had). Just let us know how they are once they arrive ;)

Where exactly DID you hear this? I don't mean to be an ass, but I'm curious as to your sources. Want to make sure the good news is true! :)

Judging from the difference from my 1st 1087 to my 2nd, it's probably true.  My 2nd one is recent, and it has no problems at all.

Has anyone here used a Ducky 1087 blue AND a majestouch tenkeyless blue?

MissileMike, when you get those two boards you ordered, do let us know how they are, if their quality is like the second board you ordered.
Also, looking at the PBT set I posted, the font looks.. pinkish? It's that, or blanks. I'd rather get engraved, I think. I wonder why you can't find those for sale alone on PChome. :S

with all due respect, I think you were totally misinformed, here's my take on this:

I had a 1087 when it first came out, and another 1087 right before its production ended(which I sold to a follow GH member) AFAIK Ducky has been pretty consistent with the 1087 production when it comes to build quality - quite ****ty to be honest. but again when you factor in the price difference compared to say, a filco, it's still a very solid choice. My first 1087 cost me something like 590 RMB when the Filco 87 was 9xx, plus the build quality has a minimal effect on typing feel if you throw some decent key caps on 'em.

in the end, the 1087 is a very reasonable choice as you keep in mind how cheap it is. First batch, last batch, they are all the same shi*t.

Duckys of a feather, ****ty  together.

What does the TKL in the post title refer to?

Tenkeyless? And is there anything actually wrong with ducky boards?
