I am trying to decide between the two for a new board to replace my Das keyboard professional S silent. The board is good but the piano black finish is probably the worst idea anyone ever had when it came to keyboard enclosures. Mine came scratched up brand new out of the box.
Now i want to get a Filco, but should I get another brown to replace this brown? Seems to me they will be exactly the same...only different cosmetically.
How different is it to type on the black switches compared to the browns? The most ill ever need to type is maybe 10-20 minutes a day on forums like these, writing some emails, etc.
I don't need to type essays or papers every day, but maybe once a month.
Is typing on black switches really that horrible? I know a small people even say that black switch was easier for them to type on than tactile ones, but is it really that big of a difference?

If you want black switches, its really hard to argue with the value proposition of a Steelseries 6Gv2, but if you want browns, definately get a Filco.

Why not get the filco blacks? I was looking specifically at the new Filco Ninja Magestouch-2 linear keyboard:

The key lettering will never wear off because its printed on the front.
Also isnt the filco FAR FAR FAR better build quality than the steelseries?

dont want to feed your trolling, but stop hating and lying around about the das. you know it like we have read it already in the other thread that yours was a used one because of your retailer or somethinglike, and they answered to your emails too, that something went wrong.
it wasnt DAS fault you got a scratched one, all brand new das arent scratched and they are well manufactured.

some blacks feel more soft than others some need a lot more force to press, but all in all they are fine to type and game. no tactile bump and even comfortable to type on.

blacks are linear, need about 10g more to be pressed down as browns.
but actuate like all others at 1.9 mm no tactile bump like on browns. some feel more soft it depends on the keykaps too i think. i like soft blacks (its hard to describe)
some need the full 55g -
#but if you want to type faster you need a tactile bump, because without this humans tend to press or use more force to get a response and that is affecting faster typing,
they are the most sold i think.

Because the Filco is almost double the price of the Steelseries. Filco does have better build quality, but not anywhere near worth the almost 100% higher price.

Black is harder to type. Unless you have stronger fingers which need to punch the keyboards often, a keyboard with brown/red switch is better to type.

brown and black are totally different switch types.
Brown is non click type.
When you type you will notice a click at the mid point of the switch.
So you will know whether you typed or not. It is also very light switch. 55g of force. But it feels more like 50g.
If you are used to membrane switch, you will know right away how light Brown switch is.
Black on the other hand, doesn't have the click.
It is linear. There's no mid point to let you know whether you typed or not.
It just goes in smooth until you hit the bottom of the board.
Black has also very heavy pressure 60g or 65g of force.
It just means it is the HEAVIEST to type on among all the switches.
Many gamers use Black for gaming since it's linear. It is easier to press buttons fast so they choose linear.
But it is not really good for long typist. Your hands will fatigue faster than any other switches.
If you like something heavy feelig of typing and smoothness, go for Black.
I recommend Brown.
Brown is just quite common and best recommendation for first time mech keyboard users. Blue is also good choice, but some ppl hate the clicky noise.
It is light, good for typing, gaming, and all uses.

As I just said in another thread there is another huge distinction: the key layout. Make sure you like the gigantic enter key before you think about getting a 6Gv2.

Blacks aren't as bad to type on as most people try to make them seem. They need a little extra force but you don't need to be super strong. They have a nice firm smooth feeling. They aren't as easy to type on as browns are but they aren't impossible.
Like anything it'll take you a little bit to get used to, but once you do they are really nice.

I actually like typing on my Black Ninja every once in a while. Not all the time, but it's fun every so often.
And agreed about knocking off the Das hate. My Das Keyboard has been rock solid the whole time I've owned it. And with new white PBT caps, it's awesome again :)

Well...I am probably going to go for the Filco black ninja after all, once they resolve the out of stock issue.
I want a 50 million keystroke keyboard to last for at least 5 years, so spending 100 on a steelseries with possible defects vs 160 for a filco that will most likely last 10 years, is not really much of a savings.

I actually love typing on a brown keyboard, but maybe that's because the only blue switch ive ever experienced was a razer blackwidow ultimate, which sorry to say...sucked pretty badly. the keys were not all the same feel.

Well guys, I went for the black switches filco. Steelseries just seems too much like razer to me to be a good quality purchase.

the difference is very small but this little very little bump makes you dont bottom out.
i have had the chance to test right now filco brown and the das browns.
the filco is all in all more stable and well manufactured the das feels more like a gaming keyboard g15 the keycaps from the das are better the keycaps from filco feel thinner.
all in all i couldnt decide between them both. the filco with other keycaps is a must in my opinion.
if you game 80% and type 20% go for blacks
if you type 70% and game 30% go for browns
ich you type 80% and type 20% go for browns.!
if you typed a lot on blacks its hard to realise this little brown bump :D but in comparsion to blues i would buy ever browns. they are more fit to be a fasttyper than the blues. blues stopped me from fast writing ..
i agree with daerid 100% browns are the best for typing!
