Title: Want to pick up a new keyboard
Post by: n00by on Fri, 24 June 2011, 07:15:40
Hey everyone, another lurker over here!

Decided to make a account to ask advice on what keyboard I should buy.
After reading a lot about the different switches and stuff, I have decided to go for the browns.
I am a typist as well as a gamer, and the reason I am not satisfied is because my fingers get really tired typing on a rubber dome keyboard. I read that rubber domes ned ~65g of pressure so this was the guideline I used to select my new switches. Apparantly the browns need 45-55g which is a lot less. Even while typing this my fingers are getting tired.
So while looking for a mechinical keyboard with these switches I came across quite a few boards but the problem is that I live in the Netherlands which makes it quite a lot harder to get most of the boards.

So my options are to get a Zowie Celeritas for about 150$ or to import a keyboard.
I personally don't like importing because of all the warranty issues.
But a lot of people are recommending Filco and Das Keyboard, but the Filco's seem to have issues and I would have to resolve those internationally, thus those are not a viable choice.
And if I would want a Das Keyboard the only choice would be a Das Keyboard Professional Silent which I would also have to import and which have shiny keys which scratch and become ugly because of fingerprints.
I don't mind having to clean my Zowie every few weeks though for the fading letters (if I would even notice it)
Also the Zowie is available in the same store I wanted to order a HDD from.

Opinions please - Thanks!

I would get the 6Gv2 - seems pretty ok priced and has gotten really good reviews.

i bought a filco from the same site, and i got a great service, the staff is very good and they arranged a tkl with italian layout for me with no extra fees.
i got the filco cuz i read nice reviews, and i really like its look, after a few months of usage i'ìm very satisfied with it, no issues at all.

The Topre one would end up costing me around 250 euros which is IMHO not worth it, and would be importing as well which I don't want because of warranty.
I will be looking at the leopard one, but I don't think they have anything that suits my taste.
About the Steelseries keyboard, it uses black switches which goes exactly against what I want.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

So yeah... I don't think importing is worth it because we have such a awesome warranty system in the Netherlands (you have at east 2 years warranty on every electronic product you buy and the shop/manufacturer has to pay for he shipping).
This thread was intended incase I woul have looked over certain keyboards which doesn't seem to be the case.
So I'll wait till I am home and if there's not been a post about a keyboard I didn't see I will probably just buy the Zowie.
Again, thanks for any and all suggestions!

As you are in NL, is pretty easy to get one or more cherry boards to test what kind of switch you like (44 euro each).

Then you can go for the KB you like esthetically and eventually move the switches from the cherry board if they aren't available or if you like a modded switch like the ergo clear, or you can simply resell the cherry board w/o wasting much money.

I assume German should not be a problem for you, but just in case, use chromium it will translate the pages for you in English or whatever you like.

Just ordered the Zowie Celeritas! I had been thinking about it while traveling home and it just seems like the best choice to me.
I will report back if I think about it, which I probably will. Once again, Thanks!
