Well I can't specifically address your point as I don't have one, but I have good things about them.  For me, I've been fine with the ubiquitous 3M gel types when it comes to keyboards with traditional layout.  But I have to say this is one area where I miss my MS Ergo 4k, the integrated wrist rest with the angled hand position is a very comfortable typing position.  Unfortunately your fingers suffer from mushy rubber domes in the process.  Perhaps someday someone will integrate the best of both worlds.

It's pretty nice, I'm happy to have picked up mine for cheap. For $40, I'd say no.

...but nowadays I can't think of going without it.

Ripster,
Do you think the 3-Star is good?

I only have the Filco.   It's leather.  It's two tiered.  It doesn't move because of the rubberized bottom.

Did you try lick it?

I thought the two-tiering was interesting.  I suppose for finding one's proper level of comfort.  Do you think that one is "toxic" somehow, as someone here suggested?

Does the "two-tiering" seem benificial to you?

The 3-star brand (http://www.elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,palm_rests&pid=hm_prmb) over at Elitekeyboards costs the same so I wouldn't say it's expensive because it's made by Filco unless you're comparing it to something like this (http://www.staples.com/Fellowes-Microban-Wrist-Rest-Graphite/product_597693). =P

One has to expect to pay a premium for leather and so it's just a matter of comparison shopping in that catagory.
