Title: KBC Poker vs Choc Mini. Help me choose.
Post by: BiNiaRiS on Sat, 25 June 2011, 14:28:59
So I feel like i'm liking smaller layouts. At first it was the 1800 series, then I got a leo tenkeyless and now I'm debating between a kbc poker and a choc mini. I'm leaning towards the choc mini cause of the layout (i like the full F keys) and the nkro.

I'll be getting it with blues. Anyone that owns both or have used both wanna chime in?

Thanks!

I own both and I like the Poker better.  I couldn't get used to the layout on the Noppoo plus I like the size and the weight of the Poker better not to mention it also comes with detachable USB cable and it has lights! lol

Is there any noticeable PCB flex on the KBC? How do the keycaps feel in comparison? Also, how does the case quality compare?

OH OH OH! Are you saying the Poker is lighter? I don't see how it could be heavier....

I'm working on getting both, so am interested in this...

but wonder, how is the Noppoo layout confusing, when compared to any other compact? Isn't the most-used part pretty much standard?

what lights? the noppoo have lights too if you mean in the lock keys

I like the layout of the noppoo better as theres f1-12 keys instead of having to use the FN key

Squished modifier are, and some people don't like which keys they chose to be primary vs. alt layer for the navigation on the far right edge (pgup/dwn/home/end...)

I've had the choc mini for a couple of weeks now and I love it.  I don't know if I would like the KBC Poker since I do use the F row a lot and using a modifier would get annoying.  I also like that the choc mini has a numpad that I can use when required.  It is lighter than the filco tenkeyless that I had, but it doesn't move on my desk when in use.

None that I notice.  As for the keycaps, you've probably already read somewhere on these forums about illegible prints/legends on the earlier Noppoos (the later ones seem fine).

I mean these..  Anyway, it all boils down to personal preferences and for me, I happen to like the Poker more.  That's all.

^ Get it if you like thin and firm wrist rest.  Best I've ever used.

i'm leaning towards the noppoo. and it really comes down to the F row of keys. I don't know if i can deal with not having a dedicated set.

i really wish the noppoo had the removable cable though. it'd make it so easy to switch between my leopold. gah. i want a little bit of both.

the white printed keys i also don't like. is there a place that sells the engraved version? i see none on ebay and the ones on taobao seem to be a mix of pictures.

Nobody sells the engraved poker. You'd have to buy a separate set of caps. :/
Also, reaper, I was referring to the texture and wear of the Poker caps. I don't care about the legibility of the caps, as I type on Dvorak anyways. Don't need to see any of the caps. :)
The Poker in your pics looks really awesome! Better than the other pictures I've seen of it!

Thanks!  And I can post some pics of both keycaps side by side tomorrow (it's too late for today).  They feel pretty similar in terms of the texture.. don't know about the wear part yet since I only have this thing for a short while.

I've only got the choc.  It's rather nice.

C'mon, eventually you'll get both.  Just start with the one you think you won't like the most so you've got an excuse to buy the other.

If you can't choose between them, then get the most expensive first - it will make it easier to buy the second.

They'll look great in your sig.
