Post by: SecrtAgentMan on Mon, 27 June 2011, 15:29:48
I've been looking at mouser and digikey...nothing :/

Does anyone know of a site that sells them individually?

Join the qtan groupbuy and get yourself a plu-87 red switch unless you were looking for a brand in particular.

You could buy up to 5 from this ebay listing (http://cgi.ebay.com/Cherry-MX-Series-keyboard-RED-switch-replacement-/260807397542?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item3cb95510a6). Perhaps they could get more?

I think OP is looking for switches itself and not the keyboard but I could be wrong. =P

Yep, just looking for switches and not a keyboard.

If I take a brown switch, take out the brown stem and replace it with a red stem would that work?

I'm just interested in replacing the spring, and seeing as how both red/brown take 45g of force I wanted to make sure it would work without a hitch.

to my knowledge, and i'm pretty sure about it,
you could use either mx brown or mx blue spring with a red stem.
brown/blue/red springs are supposed to b the same.
black stems are close, if not the same as red stems, so black stem/blue spring should work, too.
refered to as ghetto reds.

im too sleepy right now to grab some links, but the are some for according threads :P

Blue or brown springs on a black stem would give you a red more or less. Hope you're doing a pcb mount so you don't have to desolder / solder a bunch of switches to swap springs and stems. If its a plate mount you need to be sure before going to all that work.

I already have the red stems, so getting blue/brown switches and taking out the stem and swapping it with the red stem should be fine then?

Thanks guys :)

Thanks Solutor for the link, do you know what currency they use?

I forget if it's New Taiwanese Dollar (NTD) or Taiwan Dollar (TWD)

From wikipedia.

Quote
In English usage the New Taiwan Dollar is often abbreviated as NT, NT$, NT Dollar or NTD, while the abbreviation TWD is typically used in the context of foreign exchange rates. Subdivisions of a New Taiwan Dollar are rarely used, since practically all products on the consumer market are being sold at whole dollars.

I'll let you know, as of now I'm just considering replacing the springs and re-soldering switches.
