Title: Found A Weird Keyboard.
Post by: Lethal Squirrel on Sat, 02 July 2011, 18:35:46
My friend's mom asked if I wanted to look through a pile of old various electronics she had. I seen a the coiled up cable sticking out and automatically thought, Model M! I pulled it out and was like "oh, just a rubber dome" then I clicked the keys thinking "every time I get my hopes up and press a key it turns out being just a normal piece of crap" I pressed the keys and was almost shocked. I knew right away it was cherry blacks.

First thing I noticed about this thing was the huge ass space bar. and the weird layout.

here are some picks.

Tenkeyless?

Double Shots.

The keys are a lot shorter than normal

What is this weird cable?

So basically. Is this worthless or a nice find?
and is there a way to actually use this with windows?

Terminal keyboard, hence the phone jack connector. If you can figure out what kind of terminal it went with you could probably build an adapter.

The guys on IRC believe it's a Wyse terminal board.

Nice! Layout looks pretty good to me, but you're right about the spacebar... caps lock isn't shy either!! I wonder what it's from, it looks a bit mac like maybe?

edit: ok, terminal I could believe too :)

Clearly that has the number pad, it's just a compact layout. Not tenkeyless.

That navigationless layout is what I've always wanted in a Model M. Well, with a normal main block, anyway.

I also think that's a Wyse terminal board. The arrow keys are very Wyse like.

Anything that's using a phone cable can't be too hard to figure out in terms of conversion. I think there may be something documented somewhere if it is in fact a Wyse.

But yeah, nice find!

That is for sure a Wyse terminal board. Look them up on ebay. Have fun getting them to work, it's daunting.

Looks very similar to a WYSE, though it lacks those yellow arrow keys.

Has the exact same layout and doubleshots with the same font, but with black instead of the blue and yellow legends that is standard on the Wyse wy60 without the branding. Wonder if it was some special order equipment for a large firm, as I've never seen one with the black legends before.
