Springs have an innate tendency to ping. It's normal.

Depends how loud it is. I'd say it's "normal" if it's not noticeable during normal typing.

It's normal. If there is an abnormal pinging going on it only effects *some* of the switches on the board, not all of them.

Is the whole keyboard that pings or you have just some pinging switches ?

There isn't nothing normal, my xarmor had just a single pinging switch, I fixed it, and now it's completely ping free.

My Qpad is completely ring free, my bl 82 is ring free also, idem for BW and a cherry G80

I'd say it's about 50% of the keys.
Nevertheless, this thing types so extremely godlike, I can never live without it again xD

That's impossible.  Ducky plates are aluminum.

Likely if the resonance is plate related it just ring at a different frequency than steel

BTW I just found a spare pinging switch, so I'll be able to do some experiments.

It's true. Mine does it too.
But only on a few keys. It's not a problem for me.

Done.

I posted the results in the filco thread (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?18739-Have-you-experienced-the-Filco-quot-ping-quot-noise&p=376137&viewfull=1#post376137)

I think a lot of mech boards have some ping to them, especially plate mounted switches.  Is it so bad it bothers you when you aren't listening for it?

There's one like this in the Das I just received (blues). The W key has a pretty loud spring to it compared to the surrounding keys, which you can hear whether you bottom out the key or not.

Yea, I don't get bothered by sound fast, but this is really loud :P I'll make a sound sample of it later.

The Filco Ninja guys would prefer it if you call it "ring".  But I prefer "ping".

I mean we've ALWAYS called it "ping".

It's defo a pong here, it sounds kinda dull.

Ět sounds like it's the metal plate that's ponging, hmm!

Sound sample incoming soon once I figure out him to make a decent one ;)

If you want to try dampening, I suggest finding a rubberized drawer liner with adhesive on one side, cutting holes for the switches, and then laying it down on top of the metal plate.

Nonono, RMA-ing is a no-go.
Had to pay 33 euro already because of stupid customs here, not going through that again, I'll try to solve it somehow :P

Its like 2 rows that ping a lot, but the f1/f2 and the arrows keys hardly ping.
I think it's the alu platre, maybe the customs smashes my keyboard arround a bit or something :/
I think I'll try to open it up tomorrow and see if I maybe see something that's not what it should be ;)

That's what happens on days when they have a bond girl running the wave soldering machine.

Lol.

Hmm. Trying to figure out if it's a row of switches or the plate that's making the noise.
I'll open it up today to see what this is ;)

Who closed the ping poll?

Sure wasn't me.

My Ducky does that too sometimes, only when I'm playing Tetris though and really tearing through double taps and such. Its one of the arrow keys that does it. I noticed it oneday when it happened a few times in a row, but it only happens when you hit it in a certain way, and my brother couldn't tell when it did and didn't happen so its not really that loud. I just gotta force myself to ignore it if I want to play Tetris.

What did those that fixed the ping do the the switches?

Redpill had a quite extreme solution: http://keyboardscience.org/showthread.php?12
But he did it to the whole board, not just em switches

If we speak about few pinging switches, resoldering them make the ping inaudible...

Disassembling and reassembling the switch fix completely the unwanted sound

Just be glad it's not a Filco error.  Sounds like a Cherry Corp screwup.

You know perfectly that few pinging switches and the filco ringing problem are two different matter.

Got a Filco TKL today, and while is not ringing loudly like the ones mentioned by other users, it has a definite echo, that involves the whole keyboard.

Picking on the back of the keyboard is like picking on the back of a guitar, in this way some pinging switches will be amplified.

At least this explains why the push buttons are usually called "keys" in English

10-1 The Solutor RMAs it for something.

The keyboard is here for a purpose, I couldn't care less about the ring, I have already 3 or 4 good keyboards so I don't need a filco nor a tenpointless keyboard, and this one is both.

Is the Esc key misaligned in the cutout?

Yes

btw pay attention, the whole alpha block is too left as the esc key
