I'm tempted to pick this up. eBay item 350446711941
this appears to be a NOS board for $100 plus shipping and if I'm reading this correctly it is a board with black doubleshots *and* clears and is NKRO. Part no. G80-8200HPBUS-2
I have a G80-8200LPBUS-0 on my desk and it appears identical (other than color and lasered keys) so I *assume* this board has MX clears but the seller does not specify.
Two things I do not like about this board (goes also for the "cheap" one that was posted here earlier - that's the one I bought) - ISO enter/backslash keys, and no legends on the numpad for the other functions. (I have a set of doubleshots that could fix that, but I'm keeping them for myself. Plus it's for a server-width keyboard so the "0/INS" key is different.)
Just thought that I'd throw that out there. I'm going to ask the seller if these boards have clear stem switches.
-
It could have clears or browns. I own an 8200 LPBUS and it has browns. And yes, that board has doubleshots.
-
That's why I'm waiting until the seller replies. Don't want to spend that much unless I'm getting exactly what I want. That said, I suppose I could just swap the PCB with the key switches from the one that I already have? I guess it's a "meh" deal with browns but IMHO a decent one with clears.
-
Doesn't seem like a good deal to me. You are only getting some of the keys in doubleshots...missing all the F keys, some of the numpad and others. $115 is a high price to pay for half of a board of doubleshots even if it comes with browns that you could resell easily. Plus you gotta deal with trading the ISO enter/backslash.
I did just pick up a used 8000HPDUS and it was browns. But i got it for like %4 of the cost of this one :)
-
I got the HPBUS for $55 shipped NIB a few months back
-
I sold one for that a few months back. It wasn't NIB though, and it had quite a few clears replacing the browns among the F keys. It was an 8113 though, if I remember correctly. The one with 2 rows of F keys.

well, I have a board (ANSI layout) with black doubleshots already which makes it a little more appealing to me. Also I've been told that these POS boards are NKRO which may be important to some. I kind of like the clear cap keys... I thought it was kind of dumb at first but went ahead and bought one of the used 'n' cheap POS boards, discovered that I liked the feel, and now I'm actually itching to get back in front of a machine w/ AutoCAD loaded so that I can make some custom labels for the f-keys and programmable keys :)
The credit card swiper is still a little extraneous for normal use though... I guess if anyone asks I'll tell them that it's preparation for my future life of crime.
-
I'm pretty sure you could easily pull it out and wire it up to a teensy with an SD card adapter, and use it as a portable skimmer. Not that I'm condoning anything like that, but from what I remember looking at it disassembled, it wouldn't be all that hard.
-
The sad thing is that these were going for around $50 NIB a month or two ago, though the seller ran out...
-
Got an answer from the seller, they're Cherry MX browns. Makes it less appealing to me but may be more so to some.
-
anyone made an offer to the seller? I would buy one to get the front row and gut it for the brown switches :), But not for $100 + shipping.
-
no, but if anyone tries to work him for a quantity discount I could still be in for one... just swap the board in from one of the used $30 ones w/ clears (like the one I'm typing on now) would be a sweet looking KB. Well as sweet as you can be with a built in credit card swiper.
Actually if you want to buy one, take the board w/ the browns and the few key caps you want and send the rest to me, I'd be happy to split it with you. Would be a good deal then b/c all I want are the doubleshots, could care less about the browns.
-
You know, I prefer the dye sub keys to the double shots, myself. But they are kinda stupid expensive, because other people, with deep pockets, also love them.
-
N8N, I would do this with you, but I don't know how low would the seller go. Also, I don't think this keyboard gives you double shots for all the keys. Looks like there are a bunch of keycaps with a transparent cap on top for relegendability.
As for dye sub keycaps, I think Realforce are the more readily available, new, keyboards that you can buy today with dye sub keys. dye subs are indeed very nice. I think the last dye sub cherry keyboard went for over $400.

Oh, that's what Unicomp uses. Dye subbed PBT. But yeah, I really like them, and I wish I could get them on a cherry keyboard with clears. Yes, weird, I know, but that's what I want and like.
-
By the way, there is also this: http://cgi.ebay.com/REFURBISHED-Cherry-G80-11900HRMUS-2-Black-PS-2-/290453770768?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a064d210.
$65 shipped, model number indicates double shots, and more than are on the board in the OP.
There's also these, which might or might not be clears, but are NIB: http://cgi.ebay.com/CHERRY-G80-8113-HRBUS-2-KEYBOARD-NEW-/280639012284?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4157637dbc

Edit:
Nevermind I misinterpreted your post. Carry on :)

I offered $40 shipped and the seller accepted instantly.... Wonder how low they would go.

Arrived, and the keys were in pretty good condition and look nice on my Leopold. I had to use a pad printed cherry capslock and right shift, and leave the bottom row all leopold, though- because those keys dont work. Still happy not to see anymore fading letters, though.

Here's another board on US ebay with what I assume are some interesting looking Italian double shot keycaps.

italian keycaps very useful for non-italians

Very useful for someone who needs black doubleshot ISO enter and keycaps ;) I'd bid on it myself if I had an american proxy.

There are enough POS keyboards with US ISO layout
