Title: What Keyboard Should I Get?
Post by: KeyboardsAreCool on Thu, 14 July 2011, 14:49:08
Hello GeekHack!

Would you all be so kind as to help me choose the best keyboard with the following criteria?

- Brown Switch
- Outstanding build quality
- Keys that don't wear down easily (I am open to replacing the keys with ones that are better)
- NKRO
- US ASCII
- Non-glossy finish
- No back light

Thank you for your time.

Filco.
You're welcome! It's amazing with the Cherry keycaps.

Thanks for the input but I would prefer a design that isn't tenkeyless. With that said, I am still looking for more input guys!

Filco's Ninja has the same layout as a standard US keyboard, but instead of having legends on the top of the keys it has legends on the front of the keys. This Keyboard combines the high quality typing feel of Cherry MX switches, steel mounted in a rock solid body with full N-key Rollover function, all put together in a very slick package. N-Key Rollover allows multiple simultaneous key presses to be recognized by your computer. A big help for the superfast typist or serious gamer. These keyboards just make you want to type. The Ninja comes with 2 sets of Windows keys 1 set top printed, 1 set front printed, and a key puller to help you change the keys. Tactile feel, ergonomic click action (Brown switch). Gold contacts. 4.0mm travel. 2.0mm actuation point. 55g ~ 2oz actuating force keyswitch. Switches tested to 50 million actuations. Blue LED's.

I'm not sure I'd recommend a Filco stock, as the keys do get shiny, although on a Ninja, the legends will be there. Maybe a Filco with the KBC PBT set would be best..... Depends on price point, of course.

I really like what the Ninja offers, it seems to meet everything I've wanted in a keyboard in addition to being stealthy. Thanks a bunch!

I have the vague impression that filco keys suck as much as das keys.

I have a Filco Majestouch 1 full size and I definitely recommend Filco.

Yes, the keycaps would be shiny after a while, but you can always replace it every year, or get a Ninja keycap set like I did.
