Wanted something a little more basic and streamlined, I'll post it as a UserStyle when I feel it's done, if anybody's interested

Remind the last geekhack theme. Can you use the old keycap post indicators?
-
I think a Windows Classic theme would do very well on this site.
-
Indeed, the Classic theme is the best. I hate the new Windows themes with all the bells and whistles.
-
You mean the additional functionality? Have you actually tried using it?
Also, just for reference, people *****ed about the theme that is now called Windows Classic just as much for looking plastic and fake when it was new.
Some people just refuse to accept change. You hate the ribbon in office too, don't you? Even though it's faster, better, and easy to use for almost everyone, people always seem to complain when it is first handed to them. Yet user study after user study has shown that, after an initial adjustment period, people are actually FASTER using the ribbon than the old menu.
Keyboard shortcuts still win, though.

I agree. I can't stand Aero as a theme. That's why I just use Win7 Shine 2.0 (http://zainadeel.deviantart.com/gallery/28008618#/d2usxxy) with the border padding turned down to 0. Still get the cool glass effect, but it stays outta the way.

Dunno what you are talking about, though I like the ribbon.

@theferenc: Most people in their early 20's or late teens won't even remember when Win 95 was introduced (which introduced the so-called "Windows Classic" gui). But yeah, there was much gnashing of teeth. The taskbar and start button took a little bit to catch on.
I like the glass effect tho. Keeps the window chrome out of the way

I'm 22 and remember Windows 3.1, your argument is invalid.

You should test classic shell (http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/)
A nice way to have both the candy effects of Win7 with the handy things from XP

Nice link.
