Title: IBM Model M issue: key repeating/malfunctioning.
Post by: crowstar on Sat, 16 July 2011, 06:33:40
So I have done a bolt mod on a IBM Model M. When I first did the mod, the keyboard appeared to work fine, after around 10mins I pressed the "?" key and it repeated many times; it was stuck.

Having replaced the membrane with a fully working one, I don't see how the membrane could be the cause of the issue. So I preceded to repeat the bolt mod process (taking it apart and putting it back together).

With that completed, the "?" key no longer got stuck, instead the "V" key did. Now I don't want to do ANOTHER reassembly only to find that another key gets stuck, so any ideas?

Bent spring? Spring poorly attached to the hammer?

Does the key rise up back to normal height when you release it?

I don't recall anything like this on any of my bolt mods.

well, it feels just like a normal model m spring. Clicks back up and everything.
EDIT: that spring idea sounds sound, I mean 1 broken spring would = 1 broken key everytime.
Might bin that spring and see...
