Title: Florida KeyboardCon
Post by: wcass on Tue, 19 July 2011, 19:38:14
doing this through PM seemed unwieldy. If we are going to hammer out any details, we need an open dialog - i propose we do it here.

Anyway, bigpook, Wibox, and mmmty live in the Tampa/St.Pete area, so we are doing it there. kidchunks and wcass would be coming from the south, ironman31 (from the panhandle) is a maybe.

i would like to suggest that we do this on a Saturday. how about Aug 27?

You guys who are familiar with the city will have to pick the spot.

think we should all bring some keyboards to wherever we're going and try out anything anyone doesn't already have. Maybe bring a soldering iron and do a mod or two. And then do what the otd crew did and go get sushi.

So the question is where and when? I have an apartment but it's sort of small. Lots of tools though.

The only way I'd be able to come is if it'd be between August 12th and 18th, and for my girlfriend to want to go somewhere down south for a vacation. Definitely a possibility, though I do not have many keyboards anymore to show off.

and should we expand this "meet" to other things besides keyboards? Any technology that might interest the group?

Wibox, if you are serious about volunteering, i wouldn't worry about small. it will likely only be 3-6 people.

likely to finish at a bar. we should talk tech before the food, and then the bar.

My place it is then. I live in Clearwater, FL. It's 15-20 minutes west of Tampa, or 15-20 minutes north of St. Pete, depending on where you are.

I have a couple dremels with abillion different bits, soldering irons, bread boards, etc. here. So if you have some tech projects to bring and work on that might be cool.

Do all of you guys like sushi, by the way? Really good sushi place around here.

Best grouper sandwich is at Frenchys on the beach, for sure.

i stay away from raw fish, but have not had a problem finding something to eat at most sushi joints. seafood is fine; beef, pork, lamb, too.

Let's talk date - August 13?

i'll bring this thing: http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:19929
not sure how complete it will be, but that might be part of the fun.

i would start a new poll "hack or track" as to which mod to do, but i already know how it will turn out.
time to get out the saw. the peoples want to see a TSSK.

Dang... wish the original date of the 27th was still good. I might actually be in Orlando for work, so I could actually go to this thing haha

As a Floridian, I might be in. Besides, I might want to visit Oakley Store and Ikea without having to get ripped off in tolls like Orlando. Original date of 27th?

Regardless of whether you have the party this Saturday, or in two weeks ( why not both? ;-) ), don't forget to take lots of pictures for us who live too far away!

Count me in if it's postponed, but anything farther than Tampa or Orlando is a no for me.
