Title: Grid of 12mm buttons for sc2
Post by: TuckFrance on Fri, 22 July 2011, 15:26:06
How feasible would it be to order thirty six 12mm buttons from akihabara.jp and make a base and USB plug to use the buttons for Starcraft 2 hotkeys? I find that the spacing of any regular keyboard makes it time consuming and difficult to use anything to the right of 6/y/h/n on a QWERTY keyboard.

dx1 (http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/keyboards-mice/77ba/) for xp or ch multi function panel (http://www.amazon.com/CH-Function-Windows-Applications-Gaming/dp/B000KBIBR8) for vista/7 might fit the bill. I have both. You can make them macros or just regular keys. Not sure if they would be allowed in competitions though.

I think any keyboard which has the ability to make macros is illegal in many tournaments. Do you think I could follow a fighting game tutorial on making a stick but then include 36 buttons and no joystick instead of the traditional fighting game layout? Can you use this with a PC?

Cherry does make a POS board (http://www.cherrycorp.com/english/keyboards/POS/SPOS_Rows_Columns/index.htm) much like that. They're just large slabs of relegendable keys. I have no idea if they're using mechanical switches though.

Or you could just do some practice drills. Every SC2 pro gamer has done it and they are easily able to hit keys on their keyboards accurately without even thinking. I've been doing practice drills on and off alongside playing since February and I feel pretty confident in playing now. I haven't even missed the lettering on my keys since I got my mechanical keyboard with black on black keycaps.

I feel that with all those macro keys you would be to busy trying to look for those keys rather than just playing normally... Plus i feel like thats kind of cheating....

Get one of those Tipro boards and be done with it. Much cheaper than DX1 :)

You can rebind the keybinds from like I (Infestor) to F and put 7890 on F1-4. Thats what I do, feels a lot better than normal.
