Title: Logitech G15 (Original)
Post by: roknir on Fri, 22 July 2011, 16:23:10
What kind of switches does the original version of the Logitech G15 have?  I'm curious, but wasn't able to get a keycap off too see and I don't have the time for much of a tear down right now.  Anyone have more info?

All Logitech keyboards have rubber dome switches.

Except for the ones that have scissor switches.

You call that a G15? This (http://www.piercefuller.com/collect/bendix/index.html) is a G-15.

original g15 is pretty decent for a rubber dome. it also has the spin volume control instead of buttons.

Dont you think that is a better deal a RD that cost 50$ for a reason than a mechanical that cost 160$ just because the hype ?

Personally, the reason does not justify the price for me. I do not use macro keys, neither some displays.
But that is just for me tho.

I bought the G15 when it was pretty new, had to get the Swedish layout because the Norwegian wasn't out yet.
For me it was worth the money; it has been my only keyboard until I got two Filcos a few months ago, and it still looks very good and works perfectly. The black coating on the caps is still perfectly intact and even though the outer coating has worn off most of the caps they don't look particularly shiny.
As for the macro keys and the LCD; not all that useful, but the LCD+media keys are fantastic if you play music while gaming.
Haven't tried the newer models, but the original G15 is, in my opinion, a decent choice for a rubber dome.

Slightly unrelated note; I also got the G5 with the keyboard and it has been my main mouse for 4+ years now, using it right now and it still looks and works perfectly.

True, but neither is a good deal :/  I like $30 mechanicals...  just wish they looked more "professional" than a used POS board :/

I've had both versions and got the orange one not long after it came out (I'm still using it until I get a mechanical) and it still works perfectly but it's so dirty that you couldn't clean it if you wanted to. Overall I thought it was worth the money, at least back then.
