It was $100 when I saw it in about 4 hours ago. Cheaper price before I saw it?

note that this is not an industrial model M...its a regular 1391401 in a NOS shell from unicomp...if you want an original, dont bid on this.

this is his third or fourth he's sold, several times people were disappointed...but nowhere in his listing does he mention industrial. Also, the blue badge is a clear sign...unicomp must have sent him the wrong badge and he just glued it in without checking. Industrial shells can be had from unicomp for about 20$

what Ascaii is saying:
get urself a 1391401 from ebay for $40
then get brand new grey industrial shell and keycaps from unicomp for $20 + $20
and also red ESC from unicomp for $2.5

the next thing would be just hand clean and reassemble parts

Wait, what? Is this an option now? I can get an industrial shell for $20?

edit: Yep, awesome. Ordered one.

Yup, full shell: top + bottom.  Just got one from a tiny "french group buy" with Gilgam.

The color apparently doesn't match 100% (I'd say it match 99% but that is very approximative) my real Industrial M but I still ordered three more industrial shells.

Wait!?  I'm confused now: why should he get a set of keycaps from Unicomp?  Are the industrial coming with different keycaps than regular 1391401!?

(I've got a real industrial and a fake one, but I changed the keycaps from my real one to blank black keys so I can't tell if they were different because my keycaps are all in a big box now and I've got plenty of Ms and keycaps)

I always found clear barrel plate not to look as good on industrial as black/dark brown barrel plate (while they're fine on regular M).  Switched the clear/white/beige barrel plate on my real Industrial to a dark one.

With the clear barrel plate you kinda "see white" around every keys.

Just my $0.02,

New keys are not essential
Just in case u want a mint condition fake industrial
U should also know that the gray shell might not match model m made after 1996

Btw,uncomp is still selling gray shell for 101
But gray ssk shell is not available
And they do not sell any IBM sticker anymore

Some background, I'm not in this as a business but mainly to fund my other keyboard purchases. I had acquired a collection (over 30) of Model Ms back in the early 1990s. I had never felt the urge for IBM space savers until several months ago. Within the span of 2 months, I probably spent close to $2000 acquiring IBM space savers. I bought two of the Comptekw2K NIB SSKs for $345 and $355. I probably over paid but that was ok since I felt that they were worth it. I was probably partially responsible for the recent spike in SSK prices :-(.  I am now into the Realforce series of keyboards and just bought one from EliteKeyboards 2 weeks ago. I also bought a used one from Ebay 3 days ago. I am thinking about getting the new model realforce that I heard mention that EliteKeyboards will be carrying soon. So, to fund these purchases and not get killed by the wife, I need to sell some of my Model Ms off (as I do not like the full size Model Ms as much as the smaller form factor ones).

In terms of pricing, yes, you can always find cheaper alternatives especially if you roll your own. However, even at the price that I am asking, the profit is minimal. Let's assume that we go with Laggy-gaga prices. You also have to factor in taxes and shipping when buying the parts so total parts costs will be close to $68. Now add in ebay and paypal fees (probably close to $9) and the production cost is around $77.

The target market is not the knowledgeable folks on Geekhack but mainly some average user who just wants an IBM Model M that is guaranteed to be in excellent condition and is not in the run-of-the-mill boring beige color. So far, I have sold approximately 17 of the keyboards and I only had one person who was not happy and that was becuase he misunderstood what the item was (I always try to make the auction as clear as possible) and in that case, I refunded him the price and original shipping. So for that auction, I had to eat the shipping cost (~$15) and the ebay listing fee ($1.25). This pretty much wipes out the profit on the next keyboard that I sell.

Hey litster, this is the sticker I told you about in the other thread (doesn't look that great on the industrial shell so I'm not sure I'll use it):

I didn't place the order (Gilgam did) so I don't know how comes he got the blue labels (think he got one for him too).

Yes, thought maybe Unicomp said something over the phone about the labels (if kpeezy ordered over the phone.

Thanks TacitcalCoder.  Yeah, blue badge doesn't work for industrial.  We need to get some logo labels printed ourselves.  wcass here on GH has printed some black on gold domed labels.  He is trying to print something that is very close to the original.

I was wondering (and maybe this would deserve its own thread): maybe someone could model a 3D badge that we could then print in 3D on shapeways.com?  Because it's so small it wouldn't be pricey and we could print black plastic or metal badges?  Something like a badge with the correct shape / height and a see true logo (say "IBM" or "GH") and then one could either put the 3D bagde "as is" on a shell and see through the logo the color of the shell or put a sheet with the color of his choice underneath the logo.

It may not be allowed to reproduce the IBM logo so maybe something else, or a private model on shapeways.

Shouldn't be too hard but the only thing I ever modeled in 3D was a cube in 3DS-Max more than a decade ago ; )

Yeah, blue badge doesn't work for industrial.

On my real Industrial I've got the "A-B QUALITY  Manufactured by IBM corporation" and I think that one looks particularly good on the industrial (see first keyboard in my sig) but that "A-B" badge sadly feels a bit cheap when you touch it and I'm not sure it would handle a spilled drink very well :-/

Actually, ripster has a industrial M13 with a blue badge (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?10280-IBM-Model-M13-Trackpoints!&p=190304#post190304).  Maybe they did come in blue badge?

For the record, there was no mention of a sticker in my phone order. They actually had me place an order online for misc. parts. I didn't even know about the sticker.
