Title: PCB ErgoClears vs Plate-mounted ErgoClears
Post by: BiNiaRiS on Mon, 01 August 2011, 01:11:26
For the few of you out there that have spent the time and effort to get a platemounted ErgoClear board, how much different does it feel over PCB?

No idea, but I just finished modding my Poker w/ Browns to an Ergo clear (messed up the LED's too, I think my soldering iron tip was starting to crap out on me). I'm not so sure how I like the Ergo clears, honestly. They don't seem that much of an improvement over browns. I can barely feel the tactile bump, except for when the key is on it's way back up.

Who knows, though. I might warm up to them. There is something kinda crisp about 'em. Now I just gotta fix the damn LEDs :(

PS: I guess my contribution to the thread would be that I'm interested in the same information as the OP :)

Very different, just like with other switches. PCB has a much softer landing.

Would you say it feels better then?

Overall, yes IMO.

I haven't done it but I may disagree anyway, without really knowing what I'm talking about.  (like that's really news on the interwebs.)  All of my Alps boards are plate mount (were there ever any that weren't?) and they just feel so much more solid than my PCB mounted Cherries... to the point that I just purchased a plate-mount MX (WASD) board with the idea in mind of modding it to clears (real clears not ergo...  maybe the lighter springs of the ergos would make the flex of the PCB less noticeable?
