Title: Leopold, Das, Ducky or Filco
Post by: Side e on Sat, 06 August 2011, 11:02:57
Hi Guys just wondering what some of your thoughts are on a few of these boards.  I'm after 2 boards one for me for gaming and general use,  and one for my wife for study / work and maybe gaming if i cant talk her into playing sc2.

I have been reading up for the last few days about switches and i think im leaning more towards Browns for my board and blues for my wife's.  I have used a Razor blackwidow for a short time,  overall i like the feel of the blues but i play late at night when the wife is in bed so browns may be better for that for the sound.

I can get leopolds with red, Brown or Blues for $109 AUD  http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=113_1277

Das with Blues or Browns For $139 to $149 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=113_1224

Ducky With Blues, Browns and Blacks For $150 and with reds for $140 http://www.mechkeyboards.com/products.html

And the almight Filcos Reds for $187 and browns, blues and  blacks at $160 for the ninjas and normal majestouch 2.  Also i can get the TKl version for $150 http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/products/1838/?sort=price_asc

One other i just noticed is the Zowie Celritas with Browns for $154

i have read about some issues with quality with the ducky's and the shiny surface on the das is not ideal (i have the mirror lycosa atm ).  If i was to get a filco i would get a tenkeyless for myself at least which is around the same prices as the duckys / das and $40 more than the leopolds.

I'm also open to suggestion on a black keyboards like ss 6g v2 and meka g1 or even red keys, everyone seems to want a red switch version but there either limited release or very expensive (that's why I'm shocked top see the Leopold red for $109)

What keyboard feels the best?  who has the best caps for wear and tear, letters fading, getting shiny ? and are all of the boards able to get the funky key caps like the skulls and stuff when they do fade?  Um there was a million more questions i had but they have eluded me atm.

So cheers for any help in advance.

Edit:  The filco reds have are no longer available from that site.

Just to throw another option into the mix, there's WASD who just opened up shop within the last few weeks but is selling keyboards w/ Filco-compatible but laser etched keycaps for a competitive price (there's a 10% off deal if you look @ the vendor forums, but I think you have to order either today or tomorrow to get it) I just got mine yesterday and while I have used none of the boards that you're listing above it seems to be a legitimate board.  Available w/ blue, brown, and black switches.  Warning: etched keycaps are pretty useless unless you can touch type.

Depends on what you expect from your keyboard. If want the highest quality possible then get the filco

Definitely get a Leopold, or a Ducky if you like the additional media keys.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Pick one and if you don't like it give it to your wife.

This ONLY works if you properly present it with fanfare and flowers.

And that's why you're the #1 keyboard expert on the planet.

I like the Filco the best.  I do not like black keys but that is a personal thing...

He's #1 at trolling. Keyboards not so much.

I'd link to my troll poll that proves it but it got deleted. Censorship.

Hi Guys Cheers for all the advice just a update to let you know what i decided.

i getting the filco ninja tkl with brown switch ($150)for myself and the Leopold FC500r with blue switch ($109)for my wife.

At the end of the day i decided to get the ninja because i love the idea of blank key-caps but aren't good enough to use them so i figured this was a good compromise.

Cheers Side e
