Title: Fix a torsion bar? (Belkin n52TE)
Post by: arplod on Sat, 13 August 2011, 04:07:43
Perhaps unfixable due to the design but I wondered if someone had success. I have a Belkin n52TE. Key 15 - the thumb-actuated 'Space Bar' is about the size of a backspace key (maybe a little smaller) on any other keyboard. So it does have a torsion bar on it - but it just doesn't work.

That is, you can hit it even slightly off-centre and the key just twists like an unbraced key of that size. Which means that with anything other than a firm press with the force vector centered on top of the actual dome, the key can bind and not bottom to press the dome. Which means e.g. a lot of mistimed jumps.

Just how bad it is is that if I do the edge press test - i.e. press the edge of the keycap - the keycap just twists, there's barely any downward movement of the plunger, and the torsion bar appears to be doing zilch.

Anyone else had the same annoyance, and fixed it?
