Title: IBM Model M case
Post by: False_Dmitry_II on Tue, 16 August 2011, 23:49:44
Non SDL version. I'm sure there's at least one person out there who bought unicomp's new industrial case and now has a useless piece of plastic sitting somewhere.

I have one non-SDL case for a 1393669 made in UK on 1996-03-28. Blue label, very good condition.

What does the special model number mean?

You can keep the blue label (assuming it's a standard one), and the birthday label, since it would mean nothing to my board. I'll wait for a bit and see if anyone else has one though, because that'd be shipping from Europe.

I have a brand new blue label case. I hadn't 100% decided if I want to keep it though.

The number means the board had YU layout. You can see here exactly what it looks like:

I wouldn't know how to remove the badge or the birthday label without damaging them so I'd leave them be.

Cheers,
SainT

Ah. They'd just wind up in the trash with me, but noted. 'Twould be destined for paint and going on my model m dyed board. Got a guess as to shipping?

@Biniaris, what does that mean?

The empty case weighs 800g, making the postage cost $13 USD.

Okay. I'll probably be taking you up on that, but I can be pretty patient.

I have not yet gotten one no.

Something tells me it won't be particularly cheaper from there than europe.

I would love to buy the blue label if you don't need it. I scratched mine while trying to clean out the edges. Minor cosmetic damage but it bothers the hell out of me.

I have a beige 54G case (Blue label, April '93) that I don't really need anymore. There's some minor damage along the front edge; near the arrow block, but otherwise it's clean and good shape.

Define minor damage?

If I can get the label off in one piece (probably also soaked in goo gone) you can have it. But yeah, after having painted it and stuff I think it would look funny with that label.

It's three small dents/gouges, I can post a picture later if you'd like.

Alrighty, I've got it now. It's all painted up and on it.

Only two problems.

This case was from a 5xxxx board, and mine is a 42xxx board so there is now a hole around the cord because there was never anything around it originally. Suggestions?

Also something is off and it doesn't close quite as much as it should. You can squeeze the bottom edge, mainly the right end is the worst, and I can't see what's causing it.
