Title: Right handed Dvorak
Post by: Quarzac on Sat, 20 August 2011, 19:41:48
Are there any right-handed Dvorak users around here? I just switched to it yesterday because I have slightly impaired motor skills with my left hand, and I was looking for something that would be a little more friendly than qwerty. I ask because I'm looking for tips as to how you guys picked it up and how long it took you to get back to your normal speeds. Also, is there any way to disable qwerty entirely in Windows 7? Thanks!

To disable QWERTY, just set your preferred layout as the default in the "Text Services and Input Languages" "General" tab, then select the QWERTY layout (called "US" if you are in the US) and select remove. To do it at a lower level, you could use a registry key layout modifier program such as KeyTweak (http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/).

I thought that, but it won't let me remove it. Perhaps I am selecting the default incorrectly? I just moved Dvorak to the top of the list.

EDIT: Never mind. I am blind. I got it.

Yeah that drop down menu was hidden in plain sight for a while for me too.
