Is this a PLU clone or a FILCO clone, or a marriage between FILCO (top) and Ducky (bottom)?

Planned switches for this keyboard:
機械軸:Cherry MX軸-黑軸、茶軸、青軸(台灣不上市)、紅軸(外觀稍微不同)

Translation : MX Black, Brown, Blue, Red (slightly different design)

Looks like a rebranded leopold to me... from the caps lock and scroll lock windows. Also the bottom has the leopold design...

Ducky 1087 has usb connector on the back and not on the bottom

Any indication of pricing?

@OP, can you take close up shots of the PCB and the controller?

@jpm, I got confused to the Ducky 9008 bottom. Seems like Leopold bottom is a better match.

Well, a Leopold with a wire stabilizer, really interesting product from CM. Better than the Razer BW + DragonAge + funny games rebrand that they came up with.

Link to OCNers complaining that it does not have a numpad.

looks quiet good to me but they could have cut back on the logos on the keyboard (why put your logo between ESC and F1?)

The USB connector is at the same place as at the Ducky 9008GK with the same railing for the cable.

I have to doublecheck when i am home from work but the feet and stands seem to be also the same.

the Keyboard in OCN is the same keyboard. :yo:

There are more than 30 pictures in my review (http://www.iqmore.idv.tw/cm-storm-quick-fire-rapid-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-review), so I don't copy all the pics to here.  :smow:

and.....pricing has not been announced.

CM Storm Quick Fire Rapid doesn't have a numpad. If you need, can wait for CM Strom Trigger.

Yes I know the keyboard at OCN is the same picture, and I know there is another CM storm keyboard with a numpad.

Your pictures have such a low resolution, I think you'd need a CSI pc to see anything with that. Plus I'm just asking for the PCB + controller pics, not all of it

Looks nearly identical to a filco case. Plastics used and all. Obviously different design with detachable usb, probably horrible keycaps, etc. , but definetly comparable in terms of build quality. Which must answer kl's question. Ping!

Wouldn't look bad if you can throw a blank set of keycaps on there (including space bar).  Otherwise the legends are unbearable.  The two case logos I could deal with, and I like the case color.

I wonder if it's made by Strongman, Costar or others?
From the looks of the stabilizer bar, most probably made by Costar but then again when did Costar make mechanical keyboards with LEDs.

Mionix Zibal on the other hand is most-likely a custom board with LEDs based on Costar design.

It is 99% that it's OEM from Costar.
It uses Costar stabilizer and the same labeling for their keycap rows.
The top case is rubber-coated though...

Those who miss their chance at the Filco R TKL. This is your second chance to get it.

I was suprised how fast and cheap my Poker shipped. I figure it's because there's a high frequency of postage from China to the US/EUR/AUS.

really, you like those stabilizers?
for the spacebar, they feel better, on that i agree, but other keys like shift n enter n backspace... i prefer the dummy cherry switch balance keys there...
they feel better, more solid, stable, AND you can remove the keycap and clean the keyboard, with the balance keys we use now on quickfire you cant do this, its really tricky and you might break the balance thing if you dont know what youre doing

Tbh, i actually removed the balance from my backspace and enter keys cause it feels better to me...
sure the keys twist a little and you can push them down hitting them only on the far end, but who does that anyways? :D

why SCAM about the gold plating? i dont think it makes any difference functionally, but hey, it looks nice... *shrug*

cheap flimsy look? what do you mean?
the only thing i thought looks flimsy is the legs, but our engineers smiled and dared me to break them, i put my hands on it with my full body weight (90KG) and they didnt bend or break...
I was surprised as well, they are really sturdy!

it is :D
keycaps are very similar to filco...
Our engineers asked me for feedback about this early on actually
ours are also ABS, but mixed with some other stuff to make them laser printable
The filco keys i tried use some sort of ink that wears off and changes color after a while, so i recommended them to go for another set of samples i had here, the keycaps we use now
I know you guys love PBT... so i already suggested them to use PBT in the future :)

Oh and for those that asked, we just got our first batch of rubber feet for the Keyboards, so our next keyboards will have stand-offs with rubber at the bottom of the feet :)))

Ill ask if we can phase them in for future batches of the QuickFire series as well!

Quote from: ripster;403234
Note the Filco/Rosewill/Ducky/Leopold plate design with curled lips in front/back and only the switches as attachment points.  Pretty standard.

I still dont get what ping is 0_o :D
but if you tell me how we can avoid it and ill pass it on to our engineers :D

Just got my Quick Fire w/ reds yesterday. The black rubber coating on the casing of this one looks better than the one for the other switches imo. The things I would change are to remove the branding on the spacebar and remove the fire looking logo from above the arrow keys and next to the escape key. I think it would look clean with just the CM Storm above the arrow keys. Overall I like the board a lot and it's quality is definitely top notch.

the only thing i thought looks flimsy is the legs, but our engineers smiled and dared me to break them, i put my hands on it with my full body weight (90KG) and they didnt bend or break...
I was surprised as well, they are really sturdy!

glad you like it :)
about the font... well thats the awesomeness of cherry switches, you can use any keycaps you want :D

according to another thread where somebody bought one from PCHOME it doesnt...
im still not 100% sure what this "ping" sound is 0_o lol :D
ive watched the videos ripster linked me to, but it sounds like any normal keyboard to me... guess im too much of a keyboard noob still hah :D
bear with me, im trying to learn! :)

its built by the same fab as filcos ;)
actually i think its a modified costar reference design, which is what filco uses as well

it is :D
keycaps are very similar to filco...

I still dont get what ping is 0_o :D
but if you tell me how we can avoid it and ill pass it on to our engineers :D

LOL wutt? where? :D

mhhh why all the cheaply made comments?
could it be cause the body is silver/aluminum painted instead of black?

sure, np for you and other kb pros, but for end users im not too sure... the balance strings are easy to mess up if you dont know how they work and hook in etc...
but i suppose theres a good guide for this here on GH?

standard sizing... i recommended our engineers, not to try and reinvent the wheel ;)
im not a fan of how razer moved the keys around on the BW/BWU... standard layout ftw! :P

how can a reference design based product be a rip off? :D
costar owns the reference design, not one of their customers...
the difference between the reference design and qfp are:
  • custom keycaps with laser printing for better durability
  • custom keycap font (question of personal preference)
  • LEDs for some keys
  • Windows lock key
  • Multimedia keys via FN+F keys
  • Braided USB cable
  • tweaked key balance
  • rubber coating on kb body
  • bundled replacement CM and WASD keycaps
  • red metal plate for red switch version

and hey, it costs the same or less than other products based on the same reference design...
well, haters gonna hate... :D

still, im trying to stay as open to suggestions as i can, so let me know...
just please try to be polite and realistic :D

okok not a rip off but still bad gamer taste and look: looks ugly TO ME, nothing to compare with leopold or Filco in terms of design at least :)

i had allready placed my order via armygroup anyway , but thats really good to know as i missed filco tenky limited R edittion.

Do you know if the CM Storm with cherry mx Red switches will be available in US/Europe too , or will be exclusive-only in China market?
Can you please answer on that?

Damn i have to wait one week till get it delivered..

Btw you should make that lettering on keycaps more simple...why not Arial fonts?

You also have to remove the upper cm storm logo between Esc and F1.

Would also be nice to add a red led light under the spacebar switch to light up the "quickfire" logo or even change it with cm storm logo , same as ducky shine spacebar.

You have too many logos on it. Gamers like and tend to talk about their products.
But your product , my future keyboard screams out of the box : " HEY , I AM CM QUICKFIRE ,cant you see me? No? well you are blind~..."Thats my opinion.

At least you can remove all the logos from the board and include them as stickers inside the box ,so if anyone likes them all to stick them all.

Imho the price is fair good but you made one mistake. you made a well build board , kinda sexy :P , with the luck of simplicity.

i am not a hater , actually i am gonna love this board cause of the reds and cause of the costar , for sure.

Can you confirm whether these are made engineered by CM but made by Costar?
well, that depends on how you define made/engineered...
im not sure if im supposed to talk about this in too much detail *paranoidly looks left and right*
it was designed and defined by us and is built by costar...

Overall I like the board a lot and it's quality is definitely top notch.
mhhh noted, ill let them know...
so just the name CM STORM, not the firestorm logo? mmhhh ill let the guys here know :)

well, thats exactly what we aimed for :D
too bad you dont like it, buts thats personal preference, ill still take this as a compliment ^^
hehehe

not that i heard of :(
it wasnt/isnt limited to the china market though, asia+middle east+australia+new zealand+india as far as i know
Just europe and usa didnt order it

mhhh how boring... :P so far only people on GH complained about the font ^^

well... most people seem to want a blank spacebar actually... so idk...

i know... i told them many times early on, and im annoying them forwarding comments to them of customers complaining about all the logos hehehe

well, its based on a costar reference design like several other keyboards out there, so i think thats why they wanted to make sure it really stands out...
anyways, anybody who doesnt like it can remove the cover, sandpaper it and put it back, or paint it in any color they want :P
i think most people here want a kb without ANY company name on it at all, but for a company that just doesnt make sense...
i think its stupid, people will always say "thats a nice kb, which model is it?"... but try explaining that to sales people and shop owners who have a hard time telling any two keyboards apart from another :P

thats a good idea actually... but stickers wouldnt work well on the rubber coating... but ill pass this suggestions on, thanks!

lack of simplicity?
what you want is a pure reference design then... no LEDs, no special function keys, no multimedia hotkeys, no painting at all, no logos at all, EMPTY keycaps or reference keycaps, basic cable, no keyboard legs, no tweaked balance keys, maybe no balance keys at all?

Yeah, I have the board with red switches, so it has the black rubber coating, I think it would look really slick and uncluttered with just the CM STORM lettering above the arrow keys and all other branding removed.

Well thanks once again Battlesheep for your reply , your time and effort!
Here in my country all of these mechanical keyboards (except razers' bw/bwu) are so hard to find, actually they dont exist...
So some friends / community members in a greek forum will be pleased to know that they will buy (they wait for my review) a keyboard (quickfire red) that will be "more" limited than usual hahah :D !

about lack of simplicity.

missunderstanding / also sorry for my poor english , i try my bests.
with lack of simplicity i didnt mean all the good things they were added to a reference design , but on how they were added, from a visual side of view.
So my complainings abt simplicity are there for the logos (just so many logos) the font on the keycaps and also on the printing of those media keycaps. They are kinda huge.
But as i said before its just my opinion and preference!

Once again thanks for making the board! and the thanks for the replies!

Quick question about this keyboard: are the keycaps black? I'm thinking about replacing the keycaps on the spacebar and windows keys (just to add to the thread one more time: the logos on those keys need to go), but I can't tell if they about the color.

For example, would these match with the rest of the board you think? http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,cherrymxkeys&pid=maj_winf
