Title: Can anyone identify this switch/slider?
Post by: Hysteria~ on Wed, 24 August 2011, 08:23:43
So my coworker, knowing my fetish with "old keyboards" brought me this keyboard today. It feel similar to a rubber dome, but it does have rubber dampeners so the feel might just be because of that. It obviously has blue sliders, but I can't tell if there is a rubber membrane of sorts underneath the slider since it's plate mounted and the slider is in a plastic shell. I can't find anything on the internet that really goes into detail at all, so I was hoping you guys could give me some insight as to weather this is mechanical, or just a RD with sliders.

keytronic gives it away...definite rubber dome, though KT boards are generally rumored to be decent rd boards.

It might not be rubber dome. It might be foam & foil capacitive - which is what Keytronic used before they went rubber dome.

It does feel kinda weird(typing on it now). It has tactile bump of sorts. It does seem to be like a hybrid between rubber dome and mechanical as far as feel goes. I'll see if I can get some more pictures up with the case off.

If it is a foam-and-foil capacitative Key Tronic keyboard then there should be a spring or rubber cup immediately under the key cap. Otherwise, it is likely to be a rubber dome keyboard.

Yes, there is a rubber cup directly under the keycap.
