http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2011/08/steve-jobs-has-resigned-as-apple-ceo-effective-immediately.ars
"In a surprise announcement Wednesday evening, Apple's Board of Directors announced that Steve Jobs is resigning as CEO of the company. Apple's Chief Operating Officer, Tim Cook, has been named Jobs' successor and plans to begin taking over as CEO effective immediately."
Now this is big news. Health problems being the cause?

Maybe he is taking over as chairman of Truly Ergonomic

What will he do without work... sue his neighbours?

I'm bummed. He loves Apple too much. It is health. My guess is that he's potentially terminal :(
-
Methinks Ripster sold his AAPL and GTFO of here :D
What will he do without work... sue his neighbours?
Who knows...he could become the next #1 keyboard expert on the planet.
-
This made me sad.
Apple is going to fall, fall fall... down. It takes a person who experienced the lowest of the lows to become high.
Steve Jobs is getting worn out.
-
I'm not sure Apple will fall that far. This has been known for years. What will Ripster do?
Edit: Apple is just fine the next day...only lost 1.7%.
-
They had planned the transition to Tim Cook for ages and Steve Job's hand picked him, so you can bet Tim Cook has "the plan" stashed away somewhere where Jobs laid out the next ten years (or more) for the Apple timeline and Tim will have to follow it.
I hope that Steve's health is holding out ok and that he did this as a pre-emptive measure to retain his health as opposed to a last ditch pull-back because it was failing.
-
So that made Tim Cook the most powerful gay man in America (http://gawker.com/5834158/tim-cook-apples-new-ceo-and-the-most-powerful-gay-man-in-america). I'm sure Jobs will still be running things in the background.
-
man i'm holding out for iphone5 too, that's only if iphone5 comes into the next century and has 4.3in screen, if not i'll just go with whatever droid is new (have original droid now)
-
steve jobs still the most ghey man in america
anyone on the ball was short selling apple at the right times yesterday

The survival rate for his kind of cancer is horrid. I fear he is dying..
What doe the Repube congress have in common with Apple?
No Jobs..
-
In general, if you get cancer in the liver and you can't get a transplant, then that's it for you. Steve Jobs got a liver transplant several years ago, already.
I saw a picture of him in the newspaper, the picture taken this Friday. He is a stick figure of a man. Probably chemotherapy.

That picture was photoshopped.

I thought it was pancreatic cancer?
Pancreatic cancer often has a poor prognosis: for all stages combined, the 1- and 5-year relative survival rates are 25% and 6%, respectively.

Remember, in spite of his driving force style and inspirations at and for Apple, he has been a practicing Buddhist, and defers to that process. As important as Apple is to him, he has himself and a family which are extremely important and will ultimately trump Apple.

It's amazing how MOST people have this notion that there is NO cure for cancer. Nothing could be furthest from the truth, in my opinion.
Endocannabiniods that exist in Cannabis exist naturally in the human body. They are part of your nervous and immune systems. Whether or not you vaporize, eat or smoke cannabis, you have these chemicals already present in your body. Some have them more then others, some have them less. They act as tumor regulators, mood regulators, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory and so on. -Source (http://www.thcfinder.com/marijuana-blog/culture/2011/02/cannabis-can-cure-cancer.-there-is-scientific-proof.-but-the-medical-industry-doesnt-want-#ixzz1LK9jDxev)
Humans have endocannabinoid receptors (http://www.uscnk.com/directory/Cannabinoid-receptor-type-1%28CNR1%29-2950.htm) in the brain and the Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in cannabis is the key that fits. Coincidence?

I dunno but I'll take a hit if you're offering :D

FYI:
In the state of California, it is legal for a person to posses, grow, cultivate, up to 6 mature pot plants (or 12 immature plants)...which in theory will yield about 6 pounds of pot. Your home, car, place of business are all "under your umbrella". Although federal agencies (ie: DEA) do not recognize this. This is because of Proposition 215 which passed in 1996.
-
All cells in the human body have an instruction to tell them to stop replicating. Did you know all cancer is, is the absence of this "stop" command? It's easy to be led to believe it's a mystery that modern science has yet to figure out a cure for cancer, but there is no money in a cure which is naturally occurring that cannot be patented, such as chemical ------ therapy for instance.

Exactly my point! Anyone can grow cannabis for :ahem:, FREE. Similar to all other millions of species on this planet, play by mother natures rules or suffer the consequences.

The marijuana dispensaries have a medical requirement for a person to be admitted and to be able to purchase. I've known several people that have used, or do use for cancer and chronic pain. They joke it would be cheaper to buy on the street, but the dispensaries make up for the high cost with other health related services. It's an interesting offshoot of the medical machine, more liberal and accepted here than in most places.
Maybe Steve is blazing one right now, thinking "I did what I needed to do, now time to chill with the fam" :)

Stevie, if you're reading this, here is a recipe to cure cancer.
Ingredients:
- 1LB of high grade cannabis "trimmed and cured"
- Ethyl alcohol
Steps:
- Step 1: Finely grind cannabis and place into 5 gallon bucket.
- Step 2: Pour ethyl alcohol until consistency is not to wet, not to dry and allow to soak for 5-10 days.
Optional: Ingredients may be heated to 110°F to accelerate process but no hotter, high temps decarboxylate "cook" the good stuff.
- Step 3: Strain cannabis material through a screen fine enough to allow the essential oils to pass but be able to block plant material.
- Step 4: Using a syringe with a large opening "not a needle," heat essential oil to 110°F and draw into syringe.
- Step 5: Eat a pea size of essential oil by itself or incorporate into a food consisting of an oil for it to properly mix with. Repeat step 5 every few hours or until you feel the need to medicate.

hopefully he'll do some cool stuff like bill gates has done since he quit, i mean bill's all about charity now, lets see if steve puts his money where his buddhist is.

I am eating from a big bag of raw cachews right now.

May he rest in peace.

His death was shocking purely because, while we knew he was in poor health, no one made clear the extent of it. Also, 56 is awfully young in today's day and age. A true shame. I may not have liked his company or business practices, but he did do quite a bit for the computing industry.
-
Nah, I think a lot of people saw this coming with the retirement and all. But yeah, it feels like it's rare for a rich person to die at that age.
-
I heard he has resigned from life. RIP Steve
