Title: Got some water in my filco with browns help?
Post by: hfcobra on Thu, 25 August 2011, 19:02:02
So what do you think?  I got a few drops on it and a little bit got in the switch.  I managed to get most out with a paper towel, but I just want to ask the experts to make sure I am ok.  :/

Unplug it. Put it upside down and leave it drying. Get ready to start getting some paranoia with that switch cause you'll hear it different every time you press it cause you know water got inside.

You can always change it though.

alright, i have been using it for a little while and no problems right now so I think I am ok.  I was very careful with the paper towels to get the water out of the keyboard lol.

You could use a hair dryer and blow some hot air.

Whatever you do, DON'T USE WD40.

Haha only kidding ... unless possibly serious? (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?21073-Ancient-brown-cherries-lost-their-feel-what-to-do)

Good luck with em. Maybe just leaving the board in a warm place will evaporate the water? Those gold contacts won't corrode.

If you're certain that it got inside the switch, (like literally inside the switch, where the springs can have water) just leave it there drying and hope nothing happens. If a bit of water just touches the outside of the switch it's no problem.

I'm no keyboard expert but I had some experience on my previous Filco.

Also, using the plastic cover always helps and avoids spills. Like right now I just spilled some water but I had the plastic cover on.
