Here (http://www.ebay.com/itm/390342155129?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1426.l2649) <- EDIT: This is NOT an IBM board.

Here (in the original box, though by no means NIB) (http://www.ebay.com/itm/110735249885?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1426.l2649)
They look good. Buyers beware: I fully intend on winning the first one, so back off :)
-
Is that first one really an IBM? I've never seen one like that.
-
The first one is missing Frankenstein's bolts (the riser adjusters) that IBM F ATs have. The black painted bottom and style of labeling reminds me of vintage BTC boards. Those are some weird stepped keycaps.
Some PC clone-maker cloned the AT keyboard. It's similar... that pencil ledge probably fits genuine IBM pencils...
-
Ah, I looked at the layout and was like, at first glance it looks fine.
Could always be some modded thingy.
-
In my opinion, the first on is absolutely not an IBM. I've never seen any IBM keyboard with labeling even remotely matching that one. When IBM came out with their PC and later AT, many companies tried to duplicate the look of the IBMs. In my opinion, that is all this is. But I'd be very surprised if it has buckling springs. Buyer beware.
-
Given the age, at least it isn't likely to be rubber dome.
-
It could be foil on foam which is about as lousy to type on (but maybe more durable)
-
I have 2 keyboards that look identical front and back to the one in the first picture. They are both high-quality, double-shot black cherries. Unfortunately they are also both XT. I would guess that this one is the same, but I am sure that this is not an AT model F made by IBM.
-
You guys are right, that first one is definitely not an IBM. Too bad.
-
Grrr... how the hell does one go about contacting the seller about this? I'm trying to get into contact with him to tell him he doesn't actually have an IBM board listed...
-
Well, Daniel, you said you wanted the first one, so go for it! No backing out now.
To contact a seller, just click on their name and it will take you to a new page. Then click on the "contact member" link.

Perhaps this is a different model by the same manufacturer being it actually says "AT" on the underside label, so I assume it will probably work with an AT aka modern PC with a PS/2 adapter. The key layout matches the IBM AT, not the XT, and includes the AT's SysReq key. Notice they have LEDs embedded in the keys, not the separate LED lights as IBM boards. Definitely doesn't look like an el cheapo board. If it's double-shot black cherries as you say, I could see someone being interested in it. Just not me.
-
We'll see. If the price stays very low, I'll buy it. But the seller needs to change the description or else I'm going to report him.
-
I think if you could handle the layout, it would be a nice one to mod to whatever switches are your favorite (and probably the coloring too). Should have better build than anything else on the market currently.

That and I'm pretty sure XT has no such lights period.
-
That and I'm pretty sure XT has no such lights period.
Correct, the XT interface is unidirectional (Keyboard->PC), thus no LEDs. The AT interface is bidirectional, thus the PC can control the LEDs.

With the true IBM board now at $91 and about a day remaining, nobody will be getting a steal of a deal on it. I guess the days of $75 IBM AT boards are over. Seems $100+ is the new going rate. Glad I got mine while they were relatively cheap.
-
Too bad, but I'm going to back out of the bidding war. I'll nab a Buy It Now eventually.
I might buy that off-brand one just to see what it is.

Just be patient. That's how I ended up getting one for 50 USD shipped BIN.

Or wait for a mislabeled one to come up - my AT keyboard was labeled as an XT on Ebay but I recognized it for what it was thanks to the picture. Bought it once the seller confirmed the picture was the real deal...

15 minutes left for the IBM one:

How much do model F AT's go for usually, what's the average price ?
-
Do model F AT's go for more or less than SSK's usually?
-
Of late, the PC AT boards seem to be going for about $100 - $125, depending on condition, and various factors. Late last year and into the early part of this year they were going for about $70 - $80, with some in the $50 range if the condition wasn't so good. I bought six of them during that time for $50 or less.
So as of right now, the average is slightly less than SSKs, but there were several SSK sales last month in the $70 - $80 range, which were considerably less than the current PC ATs.
-
There was another AT board that just closed at $54.77:

For anyone wanting to get a cheap AT board, looks like you missed your chance, other than whoever it was that won the auction. Not sure why more people weren't interested in it. I would have bid myself, but noticed it was a fellow Geekhacker bidding on it (or at least I think it was), and figured I have plenty of them as it is. 'R', hope your enjoy the board.
-
I was the unfortunate one who bought the fake AT board. When I saw the listing I put in an Auction Snipe for $55 and then never went back to see the Q&A section to realize that it was not an IBM, I didn't know but kind of assumed that the badge had been peeled off, or it was some sort of OEM situation.
I also had never discovered this "great finds" thread until after the purchase was complete, or I would have learned about the origin of the board in time.
Having said that, I must say that the seller, Box Lot Dude, was decent enough when I complained that the item was not as described, but acted very haughty and said that he was refunding more than what I had paid, but it was actually just about the right amount. I offered to send the board back at my expense, since I had not read the fine print in time, but he told me to throw it out into the middle of the road.
Since you must be interested, and I am too, here is a picture.

There is no click at all, I have not had a keyboard with these switches before. And I don't think that it is just the board chow dampening the sound.
What quality of switches are these "Hi-Tek" models? How well are they regarded?
I am in a strictly buckling spring phase right now, although I do have a couple of sliders that I am hanging onto, so I would love to find a home for this keyboard. It is not a bad board, for what it is, and all the keys work. The guy was certainly right when he said it needed cleaning.
Are any of you interested in this keyboard?
thanks

Aren't those Space Invaders? That's a switch I've been wanting to try, just to try it.
Ninja edit: Yes, yes they are space invaders. (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?8643-Fixing-an-old-RT-101-(NMB-space-invader-keyswitches))
-
At least it was something half-way interesting. Is it NKRO perchance?
-
In case any of you are interested, on a theoretical level, and somebody must be, since I did get a couple of comments and private messages after my last post, I listed this beast on ebay today for $35 with free shipping, and sold it in under an hour (although several hours later, they still have not paid).
This buyer has bought from me before (an old Key Tronic re-branded as a Dell). It is probably headed for Korea, as far as I can tell.
Obviously, when it sells in under an hour, it was priced too low, but I offered it to people here for less and no one seemed interested, presumably since it was not clicky (and that's why I didn't want it either).
This site/forum is still a little hard for me to search. Is there an easy way to get advice and/or help identifying odd old keyboards and switches, other than just posting to the main board?
thanks

Not always. If it was priced well, sometimes you just find the right buyer...especially on items that don't pop up that often. The buyer just happened to look right after you posted.
