Title: Quick review of my experience, Red vs Blues (both filcos)
Post by: Zet on Sat, 03 September 2011, 17:58:57
Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I was active here, a lot went on. I'm working in the same place but earning a lot more cash so, after I've got my first mechanical keyboard, the Filco Majestouch2 LE 104key with Red Switches, and totally loved it. I couldn't stand being apart from it too much, so I took it to my office everyday, and then brought it back. I traveled in bus for 60+hrs with it when I went to Chile for my graduation party, and well... It started to develop some worn marks on the outside, only because of the constant contact with the plastic cover it came with(it's amazing how much this helps to protect it!). So I took the decision of getting my 2nd keyboard.

I was about to get the 104key Majestouch 2 Ninja with Browns, but it ran out of stock even after I placed my order, so I went with the Majestouch 2, Tenkeyless with Blue switches for my office.

It arrived a week or so ago, and I really really really enjoy the clicky sound, I really don't give a f**k if it's bothering the developers on my team, and probably I'll be getting my own office soon, so... it's really really nice.

Anyways, when it comes to compare both. After being on the office for around 8hrs a day, typing 90% of the time, I can say the blue ones are really really nice. I tried to game with it during the weekends (when I bring it back home, for safety reasons), but really, I don't know how others can play games(specially FPS or Racing games) with the blue ones, after having the reds. Even for typing, when I get home from the office, typing on my red, it really does feel like grabbing a cloud of b00bs, its amazing. The tactile feedback is not bad, at all, but if you get used to reds, like someone else said it here, tactile switches feel like dirty reds, like something got stucked in there and shouldn't be inside the switch, hahaha.

After all, I would say I like my Filco Majestouch 2 LE with Reds more than the new one, but I enjoy the clicky sound of the blue one a lot, but I mean, A LOT. It really encourages me to type, and faster 8)

I'm going to try to save up as many cash as possible (right now my next target is getting a new video card for my new computer, then a new motorbike), and I'll definitively will be getting another mechanical keyboard. I really don't feel like trying a topre keyboard, just because I find spending 200$+ on a keyboard is stupid, and because I really like Cherries. I might try to go with a Das Keyboard with Blank keycaps, and brown switches, or if I have the chance to get another keyboard with red switches(a TKL would be AWESOME!), I'm definitively would be getting another one with reds.

I plan on taking a few photos of my set ups later, just because by coincidence, I originally had a Razer Naga Original (which has blue leds), and my Filco with red switches (which has red leds), and now, a month ago, just before the Filco with blue(with blue leds) arrived, I've got a Razer Naga Molten Core Edition(with red leds) so now, my set up at home is Filco with Red Switches+Leds, and my Razer Naga Molten Core, and in my office, the Filco TKL with Blue Switches+Leds, and my Razer Naga Original(with blue leds).

For any of you Naga fans, I'll leave a picture of my two nagas in the dark. ^_^

Cheers,

I personally think it describes Topre a bit better than reds.

Have you ever touched boobs o_O?

A lot of people seem to mistakenly think CoB refers to Topres which is absolutely untrue. It was coined by .XL's girlfriend after trying his reds.

Just because I think you should try something other than cherries, get something else. After having used the ones you've got I don't think you'd like any of the other kinds of cherry any better than that.

Hehe I'm just kidding around. I don't really find Topres to boobie feeling though with their distinct tactile *thock* as you actuate them. That said, I do love actuating me some Topres...

It's just, having tried Cherries, and being as happy as I am with Filco, I really don't think it's worth the cash to spend 230+ $ on a Real Force Topre, I would rather try a Das, or another Filco TKL with other switch. But really, the best thing that could ever happpened to me, are Cherrie reds. Before they arrived, I was kind of worried, because not many people like linears, they all prefer tactile feedback from browns, or the lovely sound of blues... but really, the bottoming out sound on reds it's also nice :) I right now I'm ordering some dental bands to my dentist to try them and check how does it sounds like with them on my keycaps.

What's the main difference between browns and reds?

Is it possible to find reds in UK?

Browns have a little tactile "bump" in the middle, reds are 100% linear all the way through with a little more increased force at the end of the actuation (very little).

I like them both for different reasons. Reds are my main work board, Browns my main gaming board at home. They're mostly interchangeable, though, and I wouldn't complain if I had to use Browns at work and Reds at home for a week.
