Title: What's the ideal keyboard layout for you?
Post by: spdx on Fri, 09 September 2011, 16:10:17
There many interesting keyboard layouts out there but none of them is ideal for me.

MY close-to-ideal keyboard layout is between a 87-TKL and a KBC poker. Like a TKL without function keys rows, which can be merged into number/symbol rows with an FN key:

ESC --> ~`               as KBC poker but with ESC enabled in initial state.
F1-F12 --> 1..0,-,=
PrcSc/ScrLk/Pause --> Insert/Home/PageUp

What does your ideal keyboard layout look like?

My modified Model F AT layout (http://www.danielbeaver.net/storage/projects/keyboards/model-f-spacebar-mod/25092010837.jpg) was basically ideal in my mind. The only thing missing was the F11 and F12 keys, which are annoyingly placed on the far right side of the keyboard.

Dvorak and HHKB layout as a base. Capslock as Backspace, Tab and / as Shift Keys, and Escape as Numpad-modkey (including an extra modkey for the Shift-layer for $%^ etc) modded in.

(Tab, /, and Escape send their original keycodes when pressed alone or with other modkeys.)
