Hello there
First post here on this forum but I'm an active member on Overclock.net so have a little bit of knowledge.
Anyway, let's get down to business. I am currently using a Razer Lycosa and the time has come to upgrade to a mechanical keyboard. It will be used for moderate typing and moderate gaming. I have used my brothers keyboard which has blue switches and it felt fantastic so it would have to have them. I would like backlighting and media key but these are not a must (foobar2000 controls can be assigned to any so not too much of an issue).
I have looked at a few boards but the Filco's have my interest at the moment.
However, I am now seeking your advice and recommendations.
Thanks,
Crooksy.

Buy the Filco.

I have a Blackwidow Ultimate. Despite the hate they seem to get, it seems like a pretty solid board, and I would recommend it, especially if you can snag a deal on it. $140 is a little pricy, but if you can talk it down, it's totally worth it. I got mine for $80, and I sure don't regret it.

If you want blues with backlighting your only choice is the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate. If you can live without backlighting, I'd suggest getting Filco Majestouch 2.
What type of games do you play? In my experience blues are the best for typing but the worst for gaming. I'd suggest browns, as they have the tactile feel of blues without the double tapping issue. You can get browns with backlighting in the new Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth, or if you can live without backlighting, a Filco Majestouch 2.
It's almost universally agreed browns are the best for gaming/typing double duty, and having tried every switch type myself, I completely agree.

Do you have any information on the durability of the key caps? I've hear they can go smooth/shiny rather quickly?

If you pound your keys hard and/or have oily enough hands to shine keys, the way I see it whether these key caps or those get shinier faster is irrelevant, as they will all get shiny eventually. If this genuinely worries you, get a Filco Majestouch Ninja, with printing on the front of the caps instead of the top.

I can only seem to find this one with blues and numpad in the Uk. However, it's not a Majestouch 2...

Hey there... Like a lot of people here, I've kinda been stalking this forum for a while now but thought I'd finally chime in! I've been looking at getting my next mech keyboard and basically boiled down to two models... One from Filco and the other from Ducky.
The Ducky Shine seems to be what you're looking for. It's based on their existing DK9008G2 but also adds backlighting. Comes in Cherry Blue, Brown and Black options. Reckon have a look at that one. Looks great! It's not out yet but from what I can tell, mech keyboard sellers will be getting their stock at the end of the month.
I'm currently using the much scoffed at BWU Dragon Age II edition but so far I haven't had any issues that I've read about on here. When I first got it I wasn't too sure about the Dragon Age II logo at the bottom right but since I only ended up paying AUS$85 ($50 really, I sold my old membrane keyboard for $35) I can't complain too much!! :) Backlit mech Keyboards are pretty far and few in between and the BW was one of those few (and more available). Though it's a great keyboard, it doesn't have any form of N-KRO. Hence me looking for other options.
Sorry for kidnapping your thread for a bit but a question for the Geekhack veterans... What are your thoughts on the Ducky vs. Filco? Besides the Ducky Shine, I was looking at the Filco Majestouch 2 (and kinda also looking at their upcoming Multicam model...)
I know it's been said that the filco's are better built but I'm not sure about the pad printed keys on the Filco's and the non detachable USB cable...

Buy the Filco and put PBT keycaps on it. I played with BlackWidow Ultimate w/ blues at BestBuy for about 5 minutes. Buy the Filco.

How about a $100 titanium spacebar?
