Does anyone make a mod for removing an unused key and then covering it so the key is disabled? For example, a row of macro keys that aren't needed, if the caps are all pulled, something to cover and block off the open area of the keyboard?

I think people do something similar to LWin, placing something underneath it, so it cannot be pressed anymore, don't they?

Check out this review of an Access AXE0XP312/2 (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:10168) point-of-sale board with Cherry MX switches. It has switches hidden below "blanking plates".
I have also seen a mod in this forum where the owner cut off the stems of Cherry MX switches to put a piece of plastic on top. That was easier than desoldering the switches, apparently.
There exists also some kind of "locking unit" for Cherry MX switches that you can slide under the key cap to prevent the key from being pressed.

Wow, impressive!
Access "blanking plate" is awesome.
I want to obtain them now though I came up with this method for blanking keys.

No, that wasn't why - I'm quite happy desoldering switches :-)
The cut-off switches made a good platform to stick the piece of plastic onto - almost exactly the right height to match the rest of the case. Pics here (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:10980).
The Access covers must sit a few mm higher, to cover the stem as well, so would look rather odd in anything other than an Access keyboard's case.
