Hey there Geekhack!
This question goes out to the people here that have modded their K1s. I read about several but never got my question answered exactly enough.
I would like to know how you were able to get rid of the little black plastic skirts which prevent you from opening the switches.
I know I could unsolder all the switches but I don't really dare to because my soldering skills are not that good.
I read it would also be possible to cut them off, so I'd like to know with what tool and how exactly you did it / it is possible.

use a little cutter or a knife to slice it.
than pull them away with a claw or something similar.
the topside of the pcb is very robust.
i did it very often and never broke something.

Hey there and thx so far.
I tried to cut the skirts with a carpet knife but had a really hard time, I only managed to do 2 in half an hour or so...
What knife exactly did you use? And how? Could you eventually show some pics?
These things really suck!

I used a Stanley knife, cutting straight down through the skirts and letting the PCB stop the knife (this is safe because all the tracks are on the other side of the PCB). Cut with the board laid flat on a table. After I'd cut the first few, I guess I was doing one every few seconds. It took longer to finally remove the skirts - I had done almost half of them before I perfected my technique! :-)

Just a quick udapte on this:
I finished the swap. The knife method kinda sucked for me, so I just desoldered all the switches and soldered them back on.
Now I have a really pcb mounted Raptor K1 with Ghetto-Reds and I am effin happy about that :D
