Title: When did people start using this TKL acronym?
Post by: BababooeyHTJ on Sat, 24 September 2011, 20:00:01
Who else get douche chills every time that they see the someone post TKL? I'm not even sure how the tenkeyless term came about since there are a lot more than ten keys. Now there is a douchey acronym of that floating around.

Yawn...

Old trolling topic gets older every day.

People use it.  Get over it.

And it is nevertheless a well recognized acronym.

I use because it saves time. From now on I'll start calling it by it's true name, TBO: "That Bastard Oddity."

tkl is a common term in our keyboard enthusiast sector... dunno why it's being questioned. I mean sure i'd rather use something more true ans specific like numpadless, but whatever those who know, know what tkl means and the usage. I mean heck i'd want more acronyms, we need an acronym for the inverted T arrow cluster and the 2x6 (home/del/pgdn/up) cluster...

I'm not a fan of the acronym, personally.  There are several reasons why I don't like it.  For one, "Tenkeyless" is a branding term for Filco; it's not the "technical" name for not having a numpad; "number-pad-less" would be a better, but not great, term.  Secondly, "Tenkeyless" is one word.  The properly-formed acronym would be "T;" "Tkl." would be a good abbreviation.  I would still prefer "npl." (number-pad-less).  In any case, "TKL" is douchey.

You mean 2x3?  I call it the 6-pack.

What about the 1x3 up top, print screen, scroll lock, and pause?

Worthless.

Scroll lock and pause, sure.  Buti use the print screen key (ALT-print screen) all the time.

I do too, but it wouldn't have been as funny if I said, "Worthless. Well, except for the Print Screen that I use for screenshots."

Print = Screenshots of Store Receipts
Scroll Lock = Pretty LED Light as I never use Caps Lock
Pause = Exit Game and looks pretty sweet with a colored key there to match ESC on a TKL.

I don't mind TKL purely because it's speedier than typing it out. Ripster, what's your preference when referring to boards without number pads?

First time I've heard the use of acronyms as "douchey". I work in an industry and company where acronyms are so prevalent, they've become a horrible blight on all communication and deciphering any email requires a glossary.
