As in, what do I make sure I don't miss, what kind of things do I do to get the most out of a single playthrough? What abilities/skills/weapons/whatever do I not want to invest in because they're useless?

I had a lot of fun in Alpha Protocol using stealth skills and melee knockouts. Guns are for pansies.

You've probably already completed the game by now, but I put all my points into assault rifles, toughness and stealth and my guy was basically Arnie in Commando, waltzing around enemy compounds without a care in the world, which I enjoyed but it might make the game too simple for some people.

I only saw the angry joe review on that and because of the shocking bugs I didn't even think remotely about buying.
Are these patchted out at least a bit?
I hope so as it seems a fun game!?

The only bug I've noticed is in the in-game interface thing in the bit where you set up your loadout (I guess that wont make any sense if you haven't played the game), which is a minor inconvenience at most. And yes, the first twenty minutes or so I was ready to quit and forget about it forever, then it suddenly became great when the main character's strings are cut and you get to behave like a complete prick. It's basically just the videogame equivalent of a straight-to-VHS cash-in of Mass Effect with a bit of Just Cause thrown in.

I really enjoyed Alpha Protocol. The writing wasn't as good as Bioware games of the same fashion, but it was straight up fun. I will complete it eventually!
