Stock just arrived of the Ducky Shine's... Place an order with Cherry Blue's early this morning!! Will post a short review once I give it a red hot go!
Only thing I'm wondering about is how much louder is it going to be compared to the BWU... I remember trying out the Filco Blue's in store and notice how much louder the Filco Blue's were compared to the BWU! I got rid of my BWU due to lack of NKRO and the fact that once awhile (well slightly more than that) the key's would get stuck in-game eventhough the key's had already been released. Was slightly annoying.

back lit keyboard eh. I can never understand those who fancy of back lit keycaps. I wonder if they are aware of what they got themselves into.

this is what i always ask myself, especially "gamers" that need backlighting
they must be crappy gamers if they have to keep looking down at their keys instead of whats on their screen
-
I have a backlit dome board with the option to switch the light levels and I always turn my off lmao. Im a gamer, and if anything they're even more distracting.
I don't understand the need for it either. Maybe because they look "cool".

Aw fellas... Why the negativity? ;) ... For me it's 'cause I game in a very dark room and when switching from the game to chat, my eyes tend to take a little to get used to the keyboard... (I'm not a master touch typer... I occacionally look down). Having backlit keys just helps that a little... Plus I was curious about Ducky's and how they stack up against the Filco's in terms of key feel.
And yes Ripster... Who'd want to stay for the northern winter?!
-
Negative because pictures shown above.

Negative because pictures shown above.
So you say that this happens only because of the backlight?
-
I say is because of the coating.
-
but how is the coating different from non-backlit keyboards?
the keys are the same. just an led behind...
either the keys wear out or not... nothing to do with the light behind it.
-
the keys are the same.
The same as what? (ABS? PCT? other?)
The board above has backlighting *and* a special coating that wears off.
The prime purpose of both features seems to be only to make the board *cool*.
The comment was these particular boards have a nasty coating that wears of as well as backlighting. Not that the backlighting caused the coating nor that it caused the coating to fail. Just that boards that are about being *cool* may be not as a good in terms of value as boards that are more boring to look at but have *better* internals.

you missunderstood me duncan.
what i meant is that it is wrong what pitashen said in post #3. He implied that the backlight causes the keys to wear off.

that second one isnt backlit

My Saitek Eclipse is 4 years old and the backlighting still works great and nothing has worn off. I originally wanted backlighting because I tend to look down at my hands alot when typing in game chat and I often am typing in a dim room. But Once I looked into Mechanicals , I went so far as to get BLANK keycaps so I would force myself to stop glancing and the board. There is something to be said for " less flair , more performance " .
My biggest issue is my use of only the first three fingers when typing and don't use the home row so I found myself having to look down for the first word in a sentence to get me started in the right spot. Now I'm trying to unlearn 15 years of bad habit , but my impatience often gets me typing in the old fashion again.

I'm a lifelong touch-typist, and I love backlit keys. They just LOOK cooler. Simple as that.

Any keys would wear off. Back lit keys are usually coated on top of translucent keys (especially those Taiwan made boards :) ). And as coating wears off, light leask thru. Thats what those pics are showing.

You are right. My mistake. I thought the macbook would have back lit keyboard.
-
But have you seen a Razer, Deck, Xarmor or any other mechanical with bled through keys yet?
Any pics?

You mean this one? http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=All+About+Keys
-
Apparently.
-
"All About Keys" had pics of various backlit caps, including Deck's, so I picked it, but either way.
-
Word. I think you covered the subject pretty well.
-
Then there's this wiki.

I do remember people saying Deck boards are not like other blacklit brands. I highly doubt dukcy shine or blackwidow use those keys tho. Your wiki showing pics of worn backlit caps aren't helping me liking the coating method any better.
-
Deck's are money; they will never fade. Too bad the font sucks.

And thats why I said what I said. I wonder if people going crazy with backlit realize once the coating wears off (a matter of time), it is more nasty than worn non-backbit keycaps (I have no problem with keycaps become shiny). I always liked the idea of backlit until I learned how the majority of them are made.

I wonder if Pyro likes my wikis? He sure hates my subforum.

Does putting me on the Ignore List mean you can't read my wikis?
lol Rip, you sure know how to divert attentions.

I'm no backlit key hater. Geekhack is filled with snobs these days.
Wow tell me about it! ;) I post a little harmless thread about a Mech'board that's lights up and BAM! Backlit Bashers come flocking! lol
On a more serious note though in regards to key wear... The key prints are lasered (well so says the spec's in the photo) so wearing out the keys will take some time (I'm pretty OCD when it comes to taking care of my things so might take a while) and Ripster's right... I've yet to see evidence of a worn out Blackwidow or Deck key. Yet.

i can respect that

Mate, hope you're not taking me seriously... But don't worry... if anyone asks, "I fell down the stairs".

Make sure you wear make up to mask the bruise!
When are you suppose to get your keyboard?
-
Make sure you wear make up to mask the bruise!
Don't worry... I'll just tell them I'm really clumsy...
Supposed to get it hopefully by Wednesday... I would've gotten it sooner but I'm away for work so they'll be sending it off on Monday.
-
Not all backlit keys wear off....my Macbook with backlit keys haven't faded a bit after 2 years of use...but those keys are definitively made of something different than the keys on my Ducky 1087. Ripster do you know what material Macbook Pro keys are made of? :o

Retail stock is coming in Singapore today but I couldn't wait for the delivery man to turn up

May I ask what those apparatuses on your desk are?

QUACK!!
-
Don't forget that the ducky's have different switches under the space bark and enter keys. If that doesn't bother you, then they are a good choice. The one I got was very nice (impressive box), but I have to say that the Leopold seemed to me to be a bit higher quality (the body is a bit heavier and feels more solid).
-
Ripsta, yer Yucky joke iz da best!
-
ItlnStln doesn't think they are funny. But at least he's no snitch and doesn't push the report button.
No I don't find them funny either, but I learned to live with them. lol

then why did you lol?

Production Ducky Shine
Finally reach home with my Ducky shine red switch
(http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h17/Kipp3i/0c2cb5bd.jpg)
Still trying to get used to it. But the spacebar is a black switch
-
Kippei, can you please confirm that the claim is wrong that there is a different switch under the enter key?!
Thanks
-
Enter key is red switch. But the stabliser made it feel like black...
Gonna get it lube-ed soon
-
Got my Shine today (or "Shining" on the box) So far so good with the 'board. One thing I did notice though was that you had to manually turn on the backlighting everytime you boot up your PC... When using both PS2 or USB (hoping it's not just me). A bit disappointed about that. Since that's the case I'm using the PS2 adapter so I can get full NKRO. Will post more about my thoughts later when I've had more time with the 'board. But right now, having only about 2 hrs with it I gotta say I prefer the stabilizers on my Filco TKL better.

-
Congrats!!!!
Should be hitting OCN/Tankguys soon then.
No Peking Ducky OCN!
Thanks! Gotta say though I've gotten used to the size of my TKL and going back to a full sized keyboard takes a bit of adjusting! ;) Another thing I've noticed is that the "1x" light on the top right of the 'board stays on even when the PC is off. Slightly annoying that... At the moment I'm finding these little things*** oh no.... Have I become a Filco fanboi?? ..... Or dear.
