Hey everyone, how's it going?
My name is Andrew and I'm new to these forums.
I would like to purchase a mechanical keyboard and I have found this forum to be quite informative.
I play Starcraft 2 and after having a read I think I would like my keyboard to use Cherry MX Brown switches as I like the idea of having tactile feel but I don't want a clicking sound. I would also like to have a fully size keyboard.
What brand of keyboard to you recommend? I like the look the the Filco keyboards. What about Das, Leopold and Ducky?
Thanks in advance
Andrew

I have a DAS at work.. it's great quality! Too bad the case is shiny, you can see fingers, smudges, on it.. should have been matte.

Cheers Ripster.
wlcm?
domin8r, the shiny finish puts me off the DAS keyboard, yeah it should have been a matte finish.
Cheers

Have you considered WASD ? Excellent build quality that many compare to Filcos. Hand inspected and tweaked before leaving the seller and a great price at $120 with semi custom or $140 with fully customized keys.

wlcm is a stealthy way of saying WeLCoMe....
Anyway wlcm to GH :)
I would recommend the Filco + the general consensus is to get the Brown cherry (as a first key) because its is the middle ground for gaming and typing. There is no best, its subjective and its preference. I'm planning to grab cherry reds and a Topre later but not just yet because I'm still enjoying my cheery Browns. If you don't use the number pad grab a TKL which is essentially a keyboard minus the numpad.
As for the place to make your purchase, may I also suggest KeyboardCo (suppliers to Amazon US)., I think many people here can vouch for them. Alternatively seek WASD or qtan who are very reputable here as well and they are also well represented here. All mentioned parties ship worldwide.

well to be fair I did say its a keyboard minus the numpad
OK so TKL is short for TenKeyLess or 10KL - it is meaningless because the keyboard isnt exactly Ten keys less but I associate it with the removal of the 10 numpad numbers which have the most useful function on the right of the keyboard.

I see that now. sorry about that. just trying not to confuse the newbies.

Tenkeyless.
Lol, i just noticed I have it in my sig. I am such a prick

andrew i am buying myself a noppoo choc mini w/ cherry mx brown switches.. i just LOVE the positioning of the F1 keys making for easy access when playing SC2.. why do you want a full size keyboard anyway? small keyboards are better for gaming because they allow your mouse and keyboard hand to be closer together, this will result in more accurate gaming (atleast in my experience)

Firstly, thanks for all of the replies guys I appreciate it, this is a nice and friendly forum which is cool.
From the responces in this thread, I think I will now go for a 10 keyless keyboard.

I was interested in the WASD but it doesn't look like they make a 10 keyless version.

Hey AvenZerg, I did have a look at that keyboard and the position of the F keys does look really cool. Are there many other keyboards which have the F keys closer to the number keys? What other keyboards did you look at before making your choice? I like the look of the Filco but I don't think the F keys are as close to the numbers keys as on the Noppoo Choc Mini.

If you are interested in a compact board (like the noopoo) then also have a look at the Poker X.
Not saying one is better than the other, just another option to look at.

Hey thanks for the suggestion, that looks like a good option but I would like my keyboard to have seperate function keys.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Filco or Leopold in MX browns for TenKeyless and SC2. Alot of people like the browns for that game.
-
Tenkeyless.
Since when do you recognize TKL as tenkeyless? I thought you hated it.

Does anyone know what stabilisers the Noppoo Choc Mini uses?
-
the tkl filco.. and the KBC poker which have F1 keys over the 123456789 keys.. and the noppoo choc mini basically..
i think i will still get the KBC poker cherry mx blue for typing.. i think the KBC looks alot nicer than the noppoo choc mini..
-
I picked up a noppoo just to see if I liked red switches before I put out the big bucks on a different keyboard. What I found however is that the F key placement is so nice for gaming I'm keeping it just for that. The Poker wasn't an option for me because I need to use F keys and the numbers for RTS.
The lighting in my room sucks at the moment so this is the best pic I could take.

Choc Pro uses Costar so I would ASSume that Choc Mini is the same.

I got the Razer blackwidow because was the only tactile mechanical keyboard I could find in my country and it's a great keyboard indeed. I don't like the glossy finish and it took some time to get used to the macro sidekeys but now I love the keyboard and it's sound (tactile plus audible feedback is the best). Now there's a stealth blackwidow, I wonder if they're cherry browns or reds.
I definetively reccomend cherry tactile switches (blue or brown).
-
I also play sc2 and I ought a ducky, a noppoo and a poker.
poker won out I actually find it convenient to have the function role = my number keys... my left hand doesn't need to leave the typing position
also keep in mind noppoo can work with macs but you will need to chain a few converters

The function keys on the Filco don't look to be as close to the numbers as on the Noppoo Choc Mini. The KBC Poker looks good but I would prefer my keyboard to have seperate funtion and number keys.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I have been on the forums. I ended up buying the Noppoo Choc Mini and I'm really happy with it :) I want to get some more keys that have nubs to help with Starcraft 2, is this something that can be done? The other alternative is I can just add my own but I would prefer to get some custom keys.
Thanks
Andrew
