Title: Filco vs Leopold Ping
Post by: BarryGordon on Mon, 17 October 2011, 16:12:23
After doing some research I found a lot of people having ping issues with there Filco keyboards. Is this very common still? I was about to order from amazon but now I'm unsure since I really don't want any ping. I understand that this can happen to any keyboard, but has any experienced ping problems with Leopold?

It is there only if you look for the sound.

Yet another over-researched noob victim.

Yep.  Happens all the time.

Whether it is a PROBLEM kinda depends on many things.  Like the McGurk Effect.

Rip, maybe you should start some sort of fake annoyance complaints, and see if would go viral and get people worrying about it all over the places.

I'm just being extra safe this time since this will be my 4th keyboard in 2 months, it's putting a hole in my wallet. Btw Ripster I asked a question about your speakers in another thread not sure if you read it.

Ping is something that comes with every metal plated keyboard (to varying degrees), if you don't want ping, stick with rubber domes. I really wish people would stop talking about ping, it is completely meaningless.

Well, I'm typing on a steelseries 6gv2 right now and there is absolutely no ping no matter how hard I hit the keys but then again i'm typing on blacks so there's no tactile feedback. I just don't like the layout.

Typing on a new Filco from Keyboardco. No ping pong at all.

edit: the poll tells the majority of the boards are pingless. (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?19743-Does-Your-Modern-Plate-Mount-Cherry-MX-Board-Ping-Ring-*Read-Instructions-First*)

Agreed. I was concerned about it after reading  so many people complaining about it. My board has it around a few keys, but It's only there if I bang on the keys hard and fast and I'm focused listening to it. Otherwise I haven't heard it.

i concur, not audible if there's noise around you but if your in silence you may hear a ping noise on a few keys

Welcome to the Filco club.  Like others have said, it will ping softly if you slam the keys really hard.  No big deal.

Cherry switches are always noisier than rubber domes, but that's acceptable.

I have a Leopold. I haven't noticed any ping. There have been a couple instances of my brain shooting a "Was that PING?!" signal over to my rest of me, but such rumors were quickly put down.

Could it be that the Ping Epoch is coming to an end?

Ping != Ring.

A plate can Ring.

It's all been said before.

Consensus means nothing in hard science. But it says a lot about the state of Geekhack.
