What are the differences between the cherry clear and the cherry brown? The reason I was asking is because, elitekeyboards is selling the Leopold's with a clear switch and I was thinking about purchasing one.

Clears have a firmer spring.  Very similar to the spring in blacks.  The tactile bump in a clear is larger or more prominent than in a brown.  Clear is a brown on steroids.

I'm new here, but been browsing a lot lately.  Actually just picked up both a Leopold and WASD after reading comments about them here.

But to answer your question, Clears are just a stiffer version of the Brown if I'm not mistaken.

No. A clear is a Brown with a bigger bump and a stiffer spring.

no Clear has a larger tactile bump than brown and a stiffer spring than brown like blacks.

if you dont mind the force needed for black youll probably like them better than browns but alot of people prefer a lighter switch.

blues should only have a slightly greater activation force and that would only be because of the mechanism that makes it click http://tinyurl.com/yk2hqqt

I dont believe they do, they would have designed and made them that way if they worked perfectly that way. There have been threads on here quoting problems with ergo clears.

I like ergos but I'm looking forward to my Leopold with standard clears.

Standard clears are cool too, and will likely feel a bit softer with the cherry corp stabilizers...

If browns and reds are too soft and not tactile enough for you, you might like clears.

I actually like both the higher force of the clears as well as the more pronounced tactile bump.  I'm still using my converted-to-clears Filco at work and I really can't find much to complain about, other than somehow I managed to make it ping while messing with it.  Have been meaning to try some imitation Dynamat to see if damping the plate helps, but haven't been arsed to do so yet.  It's nice and quiet with the doubleshot keycaps; if I do bottom out it's a more pleasant sound than most other keyboards, and with the clear springs, I don't often bottom out unless I'm really on a tear.

So, long story short, I ordered one of the Leopolds as well... figured I couldn't go wrong.

I bottom out on browns now and was hoping that the clears would help with that plus, give me some more tactile feedback.

If you're happy with the browns otherwise, I think you'll like the clears.  They're still not as stiff as a classic Model M so it's not like you have to use Excessive Force to type successfully with them.  I think that it's more like you have to really train yourself to type without using too much force on browns.

The one negative comment that I've heard re: clears is that the tactile bump exists over a larger range of travel than it does on browns; that is, it's kind of like comparing a speed hump to a speed bump.  I don't mind it personally, but this is one of those individual preference things.

I agree. I have been trying to type with less force and sometimes when I type, it's so light that I miss a couple keys here and there because I don't want to bottom out.

pick up some o-rings to dampen bottoming out. After using them for a while I took them off and noticed I bottomed out less. I still prefer o-rings on.
