Hey guys,
First post here on geekhack, I'm a member over at the [H]ardOCP forums and I was thinking of making a "Cherry MX sampler board" not unlike the one that was created here recently, that we could send around to our forum members to try the different Cherry MX switch types.
I was thinking to use the Adesso AKP-220B keypad as a base which seems to use Cherry blues.
I'm posting here in the classifieds to see how much $/how easy it would be to get some Cherry MX switches of the other types, in order to assemble a sampler board. I wouldn't need many, maybe 3 or 4 of each type black, red, brown, and clear (if I can). Buying complete donor boards is probably too expensive to make this worthwhile, but I thought maybe you guys might have some spare switches laying around that you'd be willing to sell?

Ripster, what is the model of your numpad? I need one for my poker.

Thanks.

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to find all of the key switches but it can be quite a pain finding all of them from less than 3 different sellers. For example I found one website selling black, blue, and clear switches. I found another selling brown switches, and one last website to supply reds. But to pay about 10$ shipping from the 3 places adds to the cost overall and makes it slightly less worth while. If you find a seller for Red, Blue, Black, Clear, and Brown. I would love to hear about it too. Even at 1$ to 1.5$ each I would gladly buy at least 2 of each.

bloodygood, what were the site(s) that you saw? The only one I really know of is digikey which seems to sell blue, black, and clear (at least I think, that's what the "representative pictures" show). About 1.75 ea. for small quantities. I don't know where to get reds or browns.
Was also hoping maybe some of you guys had extras that you'd be willing to part with, hence the post in the "classifieds" :)

I'm in the process of creating a switch tester numpad as well. I got clears from Biniaris, blacks from an ebay board, and blues and reds from squarebox. My numpad came with browns. I wish I had bought the one ripster posted, though, as mine is plate mounted and cost $5 more.
Oh well, it's a good opportunity to learn how to solder.

How I found a few was searching for the exact model numbers in google as follows (with quotes) after that it becomes a sort of "good luck" whether or not each provider has more than 1 of the models you are looking for.
"MX1A-11NN" "MX1A-11NW" (for black switches, pcb and plate mounted)
"MX1A-C1NN" "MX1A-C1NW" (for clear switches, pcb and plate mounted)
"MX1A-E1NN" "MX1A-E1NW" (for blue switches, pcb and plate mounted)
"MX1A-G1NN" "MX1A-G1NW" (for brown switches, pcb and plate mounted)
"MX1A-L1NN" "MX1A-L1NW" (for red switches, pcb and plate mounted)
