Title: Ducky Year of the Rabbit Edition
Post by: RetroHollywood on Wed, 26 October 2011, 14:14:08
Hello everyone, this is my first post on geekhack, after lurking for a good while.  So far, the threads here have been helpful in me choosing my first few mechanical keyboards.

Anyway, I have been looking for a Ducky Year of the Rabbit edition keyboard for quite some time.  I thought that someone on this forum would know if they are available anymore, or ridiculously rare, etc.  I would love to get one for a Christmas present if they aren't too expensive, so if someone could direct me where to look, I would be overjoyed.

If this post is in the wrong place, forgive me. :thumb:

http://www.inpad.com.tw/goods.php?act=view&no=4785 These have bopomofo etched on the keys (you can just buy English lasered PBTs). I don't know if they understand English, know they ship overseas to wherever you are, nor if they sold it in their physical store. You snooze you lose though. They only made 999 of them.

I saw a pic of this 'board on Deskthority, and the case was beige-ish while the key caps are stark white.  Functionally, I'm sure it's a good 'board (I have the Year of the Tiger Edition, and it's great), but aesthetically, it looks like crap.

Those white PBTs are really white, though the camera do exaggerate the difference between it and the case. I am kinda afraid to use it (keep them Cheetos away), so mine's still NIB. Then again, I been eying a white Filco ;o

They should really re-name it to cream filco since I think its more cream then white in person.

I googled some pix. I guess that is a more of a cream white. Want level has dropped. I may get one if they make a ninja version though.

Thanks for the help so far, everyone.  This is a probably a pretty newbie thing to ask, but how do you order from international sites?  I'm in the US, and can't understand the language.

Use Google Chrome. PChome ships to the US, so you won't have to use a buying service.

Thanks for the responses and the guide.  I've translated some of it.  Can anyone tell me if the PChome one has blank, English, or syllabary caps?

PC Home says it's Chinese, so it probably has the dual Chinese/English caps like the Year of the Tiger Edition.  It's tough to read the caps anyway, so I wouldn't worry about the Chinese legends.  They're only on the letter keys anyway.  The rest of the 'board has English legends.

Just a random question: anyone know how many of these were made?  Google isn't helping me find the answer.

This post was typed on a Ducky 2011 Year of the Rabbit :)

168 Year of the Rabbits were produced world wide.

Tiger Imports has the only 19 released to the United States.

(6) Cherry MX Browns
(13) Cherry MX Blues

The PCB backing is pink (can slightly see it if you look hard enough and are directly over the keyboard). The frame is white, but slightly creamy as opposed to the stark white keys.  I wish the frame was a little whiter, but this board still looks amazing!  Especially when it's almost completely dark in the room and the blue LED num lock / caps lock keys are on.  The blue on white is just awesome.

The Taiwanese logo next to the arrow keys is sweet.  The laser etched PBT plastic key caps are super nice and durable. Warning: be sure you are a touch typist - it's White on White, so you can't make out the key letters without looking really hard.  I am a touch typist, but still find myself having to squint to find the # or ^ keys when I'm programming.

One other big thing to note:  I'm not sure about the browns, but on the blues, the space bar is a little stiffer than the rest of the keys.  I was super bummed about this at first, but I've fully adapted and don't even notice anymore unless I think about it.  I think Ducky does this to extend the life of the space bar / keyboard, but it does take some getting used to at first.

Overall, the keyboard is amazing visually and functionally.  It's a great conversation piece - white on white caps and less than 20 in the country.  What more do you need? ;)

Rice is used universally for food, kinda like how Coke is sometimes used universally for a soda/pop in America.  Not quite the best analogy but similar conceptually.
