Title: Thoughts on the CM Storm Sentinel Z3RO-G? (Also Mouse Recommendations)
Post by: iindigo on Fri, 28 October 2011, 00:21:56
My old Logitech trackball is acting up so I've been looking for a nice mouse to replace it. Logitech's G500 is very nice (I've used a friend's before) and it just may end up as my mouse of choice, but one mouse I particularly like the looks of is CoolerMaster's Storm Sentinel Z3RO-G. It's about the same price and sports the same features, but reviews on it are sparse compared to the truckloads of G500 reviews. What reviews that do exist seem to be positive, but there's just not enough for me to confidently make this purchase.

What's the consensus on this mouse around here?

Additionally, I will be purchasing a Razer Goliathas small size mousepad along with it. Are there better offerings at a similar price?

It uses the pte sensor.  If you like the shape and buttons, you'll prolly hate the sensor.  It gets dirty easily and need to be maintained with 98% alcohol.  It's also got the other issues associated with the pte, jitter at high speeds, z axis issues, lift off issues etc.

Hmm... well, do you have any suggestions for mice of similar or better build quality and weight? Palm grip is also preferable as claw grip makes me hand tired and crampy.

I took a look at the Mionix Naos 3200, which is about the same price, has a great shape, and good weight, but it reportedly shares microswitches with Razor's Deathadder which is known for flimsy buttons. That's a big con. Someone else suggested a Logitech G400 to me, but several reviews I've read seem to indicate that it's much more cheaply built and lighter than the MX518 it replaces.

I use a Naos 5000. It's amazing tbh.

Really depends on what kind of mouse user you are.  I you want high mouse speed and precision at low dpi, then nothing will beat the g400 on cloth.  If you don't want or is okay with minor prediction, and you're a high dpi gamer or user, laser mouse like Naos 5000 on hard pad is fine.  Naos 5k suffers from lift off distance issues but you don't lift off when you're using high dpi.
